I've received a letter from my insurance company saying that they've been informed that my vehicle was involved in an accident... on the 9th of February 2009!! I honestly have absolutely no idea what they're going on about, I haven't been involved in anything... but anyway, is there not a time limit to claim? Any advice on what i should do would be great.. thanks! Oh and sorry if this post looks like a text message, my internet's down so I'm using my phone...

Strongly worded letter to put them right, and stand your ground. If there had been an accident then most likely someone would have failed to stop or furnish details, which would make it police matter surely?

I think I would be tempted to say 'I have no idea what you are on about however I will do what I can to help, please send full details'.........

Limitation of proceedings for offences of failing to stop/failing to report is 6 months, I'm sure......

Similar thing happened to me a few years ago, just wrote a polite letter back saying I had no knowledge of any accident, it turned out that the person making the claim had got the wrong reg number.

as above

deny it, and ask for a disclosure of evidence to back the claim
