Where to get cheap decentish tyres?

The Audi has eaten its front tyres and I need a new pair soon! I'm kicking myself as I have just missed out on a complete set of wheels with mint tyres for £40 on ebay, less than 5 miles from my house too, bah!

 

Does anybody know to a cheap pair of 195/60/15s? New would be best, but I don't mind part-worns.

Tim, there is a place in chesterton that does pretty good part worns, I think 15" ones are £20 a time fitted.

If you have to get new, think a pair of Hankooks that size cost me about £40 each from my local place - not a particularly cheap place. I rate Hankooks. I've discovered that the 'Hero' tyres fitted to the CX are not much cop. The thing squeals like a yank tank in a car park!

 

After a scary moment in my Pug 306 many years ago, I don't usually scrimp on tyres these days!

If somebody offers you Vredsteins punch them repeatedly in the face and walk away, then walk back and punch them some more.

I'm considering swapping the front and rear wheels around on the Audi. The rears have hardly worn and this should in theory give me 15k odd extra miles before I have to do anything... except i'd need a full set of four tyres then!

I haven't bought any new tyres in about 2 years. I <3 part-worns. It does depend how scrupulous the place you're buying them from is though, my place usually offers tyres that look like new but you get the odd duds with sidewall cracks or a bulge.

I've run Nankang NS2's on most of my recent motors, theyre cheap, last well, and grip well too. I'm a fairly 'spirited' driver, and i've never come unstuck with them yet. Internerd suppliers, either camskill or mytyres are my choice, but i suppose it helps having a mate with a tyre fitting and balancing machine...
