Anyone fancy a nice old Lexus? SOLD!

Nice enough car, the LS400. Quite quick, quite comfy and roomy enough. Mate of mine had one at the same time I had my Scorpio Ultima 24v. The Scorp wasn't as quiet but I preferred it to the LS as the Scorp didn't remind me of a V8 Corolla, and it had more useful toys. Electric seatbelt height adjusters are fun, but mid winter I'd always pick heated seats instead.

Has yours got the air suspension?

Precisely my problem. Whilst the Lexus is massively competent, it just doesn't feel special.

No and as I understand it, air suspension was never offered on UK cars.

My mates one was a Celsior with Knackered air suspension. Purely comical amounts of float. Was the Jap ambassadors old motor. Had a tape deck in the rear armrest, which was fun, and a massaging rear seat.

Still felt like a Corolla though.

That's a cracker and in my favourite Lexus colour too.

The car is sweet, but it's just not for me.

Sold via Retro Rides to the first person to come and view it. Probably one of the easiest sales ever, then again the car was 100% fine so there was nothing to worry about.

The guy that bought it is strapping a V12 into a BMW E30. Good bloke.

great cars but luxo barges - never designed for fun driving on a british A road

I have a really nice Mk1 one - lovel motorway cruiser and beutifully built - the only design fault was the dripping of dexron III from the steering pump all over the alternator causing them to fail - the MOT and the alternator that is - a straightforward repar though if you caught it early enough

the most awesome OEM sound system in any car I have ever owned

very fast in a straight line but rond corners - give me an XJ40 or a E34 any day!

Agreed.

In my E36 I have a decent enough Pioneer head unit with front factory speakers and upgraded 6x9 speakers on the back shelf. Sounds ok.

In my W123 I have a 20 year old Blaupunkt cassette head unit with a pair of equally old 4" speakers in the dash. Sounds ok only if listening to BBC Radio 4.

That's probably one thing that I miss about the Lexus - THAT sound system.

Hmm, I also miss the smooth V8.

And the soft ride.

And the silence when driving across bumpy B-roads.

Oh shit, what have I done!

A Lexus is probably the only Luxo-Barge I would consider owning. Though even then I get a bit frightened by the prospect of expensive things going "pop". That does look very nice.

One day perhaps I will stump up the courage to buy one (if say the micra gets toasted and I have a genuine excuse to buy something else....)

Don't wait or hesitate - buy one!

Mine was old and cheap but almost everything worked as it should and it drove 100%, even with 180 odd thousand miles on the clock. For £600 it offered amazing value for money.
