Another comparison thread, this time from a 1993 Citroen dealer directory, starting with Humberside 

Broach Hill Garage Beverley Road Cranswick Driffield. Became a MG and SSangyong dealer in the 2010s and closed a few years ago, the site was taken over by Livingstone and now sells new Subaru and Isuzu vehicles 

Lumleys Garage Gilbey Road Grimsby. No longer trading. There is a Citroen service centre in Grimsby 

Dixon Clarence Street Hull.  No longer trading,Evans Halshaw have the franchise on Priory Park.

Brumby Wood Cars, Brumby Wood Scunthorpe. No longer trading,now  Kwik-Fit. Hartwell had the Citroen franchise for Scunthorpe in the mid 2010s but lost it several years ago

Trelawny Garage relocated to nLong Rock industrial estate in Penzance. I think they are Isuzu and Citroen dealers now.

The Citroen dealer listed in 1993 is Border Motors Company of High Street Saltney, Chester. What year is your ZX?

I remember Border Motors. The mechanic who looked after our Dyane sent us to Border to get some LHM for the brakes ... Parts desk asked for reg number and exclaimed in disbelief when told it was K reg .... Old enough to still be on DoT fluid (and old enough to be a very rare survivor, despite this being the early 1980s). Also remember test driving an AX there in 1989.

Don't remember Condate Cars. Where in Chester were they?

HW Hidson 110 High Street Rainham. Now JCB Renault and Dacia with Citroen authorised repairer status 

Brutons 181 Beckenham Road Beckenham. Now a block of flats

Breton,  Station Garage Bow Road Wateringbury Maidstone. Now Kent Quality Car Centre 

White Hart Garage Tonbridge Road Sevenoaks. The postcode comes up as The White Hart pub,no sign of a garage.

Seabrook Garage Seabrook Road Hythe. No longer trading

I worked for Hildarks 1994 - 1996.

My boss the Dealer Principle at Hilldarks was the Sales Manager, my boss when I worked for Chelmhill Motors in Aylesbury 1985-1987 until they sold out to the Davenport Group in 1987. In 1985 Chelmhill was a Volvo dealer and changed to Citroen Jan 1987, but the company was not in great shape.

I then worked for a couple more car dealers until 1994 when I wanted to move out of the motor trade and set up a company to do Satellite survey/data work. Work was slow coming in and and I had keep in touch with my old boss and he said I desperately need someone for the Citroen showroom in Bedford. I turned him down and he said how about coming to work for me temporarily while I recruit. So I did, bribing me with a new Xantia 1.8i LX (the one in the photo) before I even had to start work! A few weeks turned into 2 years.

I had 10 different new Xantias of different engines/specs over 2 years.

The Rover was my private car I bought with my boss. It was collected with the company truck and I was allowed to fettle it their back yard.

 When I worked at Hildarks it was owned by Slip End garage and I left in Nov 1996 when it was sold to the Marshall Group.

It was a small friendly dealer and we had a customer who worked overseas and his left classic Citroens with us, including a Traction. I said if it ever needs moving I would like to do it. The Service manager said it needs a run, we know the customer well, just take it for a run. 

In those days taking photos cost money so I never took many.

If you find the Aylesbury dealer I have a few photos from 1985-87.

Thanks, I used to use both Wateringbury and White Hart as I am half way between the two.

The White Hart pub is out 'go-to' place to eat because I can trust their care about allergies. The garage which used to be next door has of course been changed to housing. 

There also used to be a non-franchised Citroen specialist in Sevenoak, Colin Bird Garage which worked on my various DS as White Hart weren't interested but were good on my CX.

Cedarlake 87 Portsmouth Road Cobham (showroom) and 11Wintersells Road Byfleet (Service and parts).  87 Portsmouth Road now sells hot tubs, the Byfleet branch is now home to a waste management company 

SE Thomas & Co Guildford Road Godalming. Became Wilmoths Citroen and appears to have closed by 2025. Stellantis have a Citroen service centre on Hurtmore Road in 2026

Lovekyn Garages 192-4 London Road Kingston upon Thames (showroom) 29 Dagmar Road Kington upon Thames (Service and parts).  The London Road site is no longer trading, Google Maps shows it as empty in 2025. The Dagmar Road site is now houses

Traffic Garage 41 Walton Street Walton on The Hill.  Now a Co-op

Traffic Garage 40 The Street Ashtead. Now Milners carpet and flooring shop

In 2026 Stellantis have a Citroen dealer at 143 Hersham Road Walton on Thames, Abbey have a Citroen service centre at Redhill and Wilsons have a Citroen dealer at Redhill

Murray & Whittaker Kennedy Drive Eldene Swindon. Now either a motorbike dealer or used car dealer, there are 2 garages next to each other and I'm unsure which it is. 

Clarke and Rodway Grantham Hill Marlborough. Now houses 

Castle Hill Service Station Castle Street Mere. Looks like the site is now a car park

Caughey Stoops & Co Stephenson Road Salisbury. Now trading as Penton MG, Citroen and Peugeot 

Islington Motors Bradford Road Trowbridge. Now trading on Canal Road as a Citroen, Peugeot, MG and Suzuki dealer

Well that's weird - I was about to post to say that the Citroen dealer for Bristol is City Motors in the old Lexus site in Brislington which only opened up a couple of years ago but it looks like it's been changed into Alpine already.

You'd like Saltford Motors though, they still sell Vauxhall and have done from the same site for about 70 years, here it is in 1961:
