I hope it tastes better than it looks.

A bit bland.  I had the beef stew with mash on the ferry on Thursday and that was nice. They don't seem to change the menu.

Two week in update.

Last night I paid the NOVA.  Unless you are VAT registered you can't do it yourself and have to use an agent.  I used https://mycarimport.co.uk/ and they were great.  When you first approach them they give you a quote to do everything but once I spoke to them on the phone they offered to do just the NOVA for £120, and said that if I decide later to do the rest with them then they would discount it by £120 which seems very reasonable.

Even if France I realised that the engine was noisy and only running on three cylinders, and had no dipstick. Someone had just put a bolt into the block where the dipstick tube is supposed to be.

I got a dipstick tube and dipstick and fitted it, and found that the oil in it was at a good level and looked clean, so that was a win.

By pulling HT leads I found out that cylinder number 2 was doing nothing, so swapped the injectors 2 & 3 and found that the dead cylinder now moved to number 3.

I bought an injector and fitted that yesterday and now it runs on all four, but was still a bit knocky/tappy.

Today I checked the valve clearances and exhaust number 3 was 1.1mm instead of 0.25mm.  I set all the clearances correctly and now the engine sounds lovely.

I also topped up the power steering fluid and the power steering briefly started working but very quickly it just dumped all the fluid on the floor, however I'm happy that it's under the pump and not the rack.  I have a new pump now but I'm missing a belt pulley for it.

Inspection of the bodywork has resulted in a hole in the drivers floorpan, but no where else.  It's in one spot so I will have make a repair patch and weld it in.

My friend Ben had a go at stripping the bonnet but it's painted with some wierd very tough paint that paint stripper ahrdly seems to touch.  A sander revealed that they are about ten coats of paint on it.  So we decided to get the bonnet and both doors dipped and today stripped the second door of internals.

I have to decide what to do about a passenger door mirror because none of them came with mirrors on the right, but I really want one.  The left side is very similar to a Granada Mk2 remote control chrome mirror so I got a similar right side Granada one on ebay.  The problems are:-

if you fit it in the same place as the left one you can't actually see anything as it's obscured by the A pillar and door frame.

it's angled out too far.

I think that the answer is to move the left mirror back a couple of cm (the door skin around the mirror isn't great anyway)  so that one put on the other side clears the door frame, and, to remove the glass from the Granada mirror and fit some kind of wedge under the glass to get the angle right.

What I really need is a right side remote control chrome door mirror from a left hand drive Granada, but that doesn't feel achievable.

I'm just going to keep tinkering as parts arrive and time allows.  Sorry for the lack of photos.

Lovely car and well done on the collection mission, it did seem a stressful experience at a few points but you did and it's fine to what looks like the perfect home 😀😀

We went to IKEA in Almeria the other day with the lad to get him some bits with the hire car.

The Mrs said she was a bit peckish and we got a bite to eat.

A jamon Baguette was like €3 and really nice, came with a little pot of olive oil and a pot of chopped tomatoes as well.

I had some churros and a coffee with the choc sauce and it was also I think €3.

Was really good quality as well.

Deffo the standard of food is higher in Europe and in my experience much better value for money 👍🏻👍🏻.

Surprised I missed this collection caper, can't have been paying attention.  This must be a late one as it has the facelifted front/rear with a four cylinder?  Has it got the Kugelfischer injection or carburetor?

These things rust for fun especially the early ones.  I was fortunate enough to own one about twenty five years ago, was the most stylish car I've ever owned and I felt a million dollars driving it.  Until I mistakenly put what I thought was petrol out of a fuel can into it and it turned out to be water.  Those injection engines didn't need any encouragement to go wrong.

Looking forward to seeing more pics as you get stuck into it!

It's a 1978 with 2L Kugelfischer and automatic transmission.

Very lovely. From back when a Peugeot was a proper quality car right up there with BMW and Rover.
