I guess you watched the home movie programme on BBC2 then.

The 1975 visit of Dr Who to the Reliance garage (Merc/BMW/Audi by the look of the car park/showroom) in Chingford, in his 'Whomobile' and meets the Mayor and Miss Waltham Forest.......Class

Was a good programme though. I enjoyed it.

According to those around at the time it was either a Bentley or a Lincoln Continental - still a bloody expensive car and a stupid way of washing it though.

According to the autobiography of Keith (title: Dear Boy) he had many automotive adventures in his short life, including rigging up a speaker behind the grille of a Bentley and being driven around London whilst he announced in his best plummy BBC accent that a number of snakes had escaped from the local zoo. Then sitting back watching the panic he'd caused. Another time he took his hovercraft along a railway line, only for it to run out of fuel. Unable to drag the thing off the line, he had to watch it being smashed up by the next train to come along.

Top bloke, though I don't think I'd have wanted him as a neighbour.

Veering O/T here though - so some more Who related shite, this time 'Bessie':

As a bit of a Dr Who anorak, I can tell you that the 'Whomobile' first appeared in "Invasion Of The Dinosaurs" in early 1974 and I thought it was a load of wank even then despite being only 11. In fact it only appeared in 2 stories, the other being "Planet Of The Spiders" in May 1974, Jon Pertwees final story. It was supposed to be able to fly but the effect was obviously restricted by 1970s technology which meant they just superimposed it on a moving background of sky. Utter shite.

I much prefered "Bessie" the veteran roadster he'd used up til then.
