Not particularly shite car stereo questions

Can anyone help please?

1) Reputable (or free) place to decode a Kenwood KRC758R stereo? Nothing fancy, but it'll plug straight in and replace what is in the Camry.

2) Is it possible to buy the lead that comes straight out the back of the plug on the back of a head unit, JVC in this case? Any good suppliers if so? The Kenwood ones I have are different, and I've chopped the plugs off the JVC one when I wired it onto an older car some years ago that didn't have any of this fancy plug business. Or does anyone have an old JVC head unit kicking about with the lead intact they'd be willing to part with?

In the meantime I might just take the unit out of the Camry estate and chuck that in. Or put in one of the several MW/LW pushbutton radios I have from deceased Datsuns...

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to get a suitable plug/cables from eBay. I thought JVC used the standard ISO plugs.

You're right, just found this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JVC-16-PIN-ISO-LE ... 0629169951

They list my JVC stereo there, so for £4.83 I'm sorted. I've got the ISO connectors at the car end, from when it had the Kenwood unit fitted (and which now doesn't work). Getting the JVC up and running is my best bet, as I had it from new and I have a 12-disc CD changer for it (as modern as I get).

I can't be faffed to individually connect all the wires like I used to in the old days.

The Camry has a big double DIN hole in the dash, I really ought to fit something more appropriate.

Can't you fit like a standard-size head unit and then a Toyota blanking plate below it, a-la MR2? :?

I've got a mk1 MR2 'cubby hole' bracket that negates the double din style stereos that came in these. Think it'll fit the Camry.

Also available from Amazon (they are now bigger in electronics than in media  ). Can't get the link but type in 'JVC16P-ISO-LEADS' ; £4.94 including postage. I've found Amazon less hassle than Ebay for difficult to find cables, etc.

I have the blanking plate for the bottom half, just thinking that it'd be amusing to fit some double DIN monstrosity in it. Because I can.

Anyway, lead ordered for the JVC but in the meantime I might chuck in the estate's OE unit (which was pretty decent as I recall).

You should definitely fit a double-DIN monstrosity where possible.

I've got one of these:

You can watch TV on it, which is novel.

Those eBay specials can be a bit ill-fitting.
