I presume it must have been quite a fancy & expensive toy in 1982! I doubt it's something I'd have ever been bought!

Wiki says it first appeared in '79. It would have been a pretty special birthday present which is why it sticks in my mind. Might not have been until '83 or '84 I admit... We were a fairly electronic-y household thanks to my dad's interests so I have memories of computing pre-Sinclar times.

I would have been driving a Triang pedal car. My dad sold the first Renault 6 at the beginning of '82 and bought a beige Marina estate. That lasted until late '83 when he got fed up with it breaking down and took me on a trip to the Renault dealership. The salesman was trying to flog him an ex-demo R11 (I wanted him to buy it - I loved the wrap-around rear window) but he ended up buying another 6 - YMC35T. He loved that car - in fact we all did - it took us all over, including the south of France, and he kept it till early '88, by which time it had a bloody great rust hole in the driver's side D-pillar.

I remember playing with something vaguely similar at around that time, only it had a cable which plugged into a ZX81 and its range was thus rather limited. Its movements were programmed directly from the computer.

Holden Kingswood

My missus' dad had one right up until 10 years ago. He used to use it mainly for driving to the local on saturday evenings, then wiping out the postbox on the front lawn on the way back. He used to spend his sundays inventing new ways to secure this postbox.

He used to say that once he heard the crunch of the postbox it was time to brake:)
