Bloody modern cars

Ok the Colt that I own has decided to be a pain in the arse....

It's MPI and it wont rev cleanly and cuts out if put under load at low rpm.

I've tried all the usual checks, dizzy cap, fuel delivery, spark, vacuum leaks but nothing. only started last night, but being an auto it's a royal pain in the arse....any thoughts on the problem? or does anyone want the car for free?

I cant test the MAF and the fuel pump was my first suspission, but seems to be OK, worringly there is no fuel filter attached, but the fuel seems clean and at a fairly high pressure, my fault code reader doesn't have the right connection so it's of no help to me what so ever  I suspect it will just get scrapped if nobody want's it

Try it with the MAF unplugged.

+1. It might rev it's bollocks off, though. My Audi Coupe did about 13 billion million RPM when I did that. But, as Tayne quite rightly says, it will confirm fuelling.

Actually, ignore my last message. It wasn't the Audi, and it wasn't the MAF. It was when I took the throttle body off my Rover 216.

Sorry!!

Miscellaneous bad running is sometimes a sign of a poorly throttle pot. Easy to check with a voltmeter?

I did wonder about that but have not found any info on how to check it

Right ho, unplugged the MAP switch with no change, cleaned all the connectors up ..no change, Throttle pot has been metered and fits inside the specs required, I'm gonna try changing the fuel filter now that I have found it  but no more mon ey is going to be spent on it unless I know that it will solve the problem

Sounds daft but often overlooked, when the dizzy cap was off did you check for wear in the rotor arm

Does it have an Idle Air Control Valve on it? That could be buggered, especially if it dies in flight / tries to die at idle. The EGR Valve could be carboned up and stuck too. Or the Throttle Body could be faulty....

I'll check out these 3 options first and if nowt happens it's of to the tip unless anyone here wants it
