Alusilber Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Just watched quite a good STV documentary about the Imp and Linwood, presented by an actual Imp enthusiast. https://player.stv.tv/summary/sgeul-media-linwood-the-imp-and-me Seems to have come out last October, apologies if this is old news. I don’t think you need to be in Scotland to use STVPlayer… wesacosa, doug, Barry Cade and 1 other 4

colino Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Quite upbeat but the same old story rehashed. Disappointed that the old ex-head honcho didn't repeat the story, that I believe, that the six months needed to get the car properly market ready was denied simply because Philip brought forward the opening to suit his diary: So fawning and bedazzled by royalty, they truncated their development and paid the price. Subsequent Prime Ministers trying to be populist and spread the wealth did force the investment to the West of Scotland, however history forgets that Pressed Steel had already invested in a pressing plant at Linwood; it wasn't a greenfield site. Much is made of the unskilled workforce. These weren't country bumpkins sucking on straw frightened by heavy equipment; loads of these guys left the shipyards to get better jobs and live in a better community. Nice to see the old place again, equally annoyed though at edits of a drive involving many different roads in many different places and unlikely directions, but quite a professional piece. privatewire 1
tooSavvy Posted July 11 Posted July 11 @colino.. 'Linwood new mower...' Sad song! I always read the reference to the workforces lack of aptitude more [agreeing with you...] Ex shipyard guys didn't have the correct mindset = 'hit it with a bigger hammer'... I enjoyed the few hours spent at the *new shopping/business park, imagining ghostly Imps rattling by...... 👻 🚙💨 privatewire 1
