Anyone work for DVLA?

I've been offered a project 1275 GT, looks about 1977 ish but has no V5 or number plates. However, it does have it's VIN plate. How would I go about finding out it's reg number and getting a V5 for it?

Car is legit, he's had it stripped for resto for years.

I don't know if DVLA will necessarily be much help, I tried this before and they were just baffling.

However, the heritage centre should be able to help if it's BL chod that you're trying to deal with. This has been of benefit to me in the past in getting a (tax free) registration & V5...

As a side note, how far are the DVLA up people's list of companies they don't want to work for? Imagine being in the call centre..............

^^ lets see...

Crappy wages and hours? check,

Stupid rules to enforce? check.

People will hate you all the time? check.

Sounds like the work I do for VOSA with the added downer of having to move to swansea

To be fair I have always found the doovla telephone people to be very helpful.

Especially t'other week when attempting to track down a vehicle which -may- have been stolen but had more likely been towed... :?

Must be fucking awful. I'd imagine people's rage increases twenty fold after having been directed round about 600 bastarding messages to get back to where you started. Then you're left to speak to someone who sounds like the bastard love child of Hitler and Cerys Caterwaul' Matthews on blob week.

*I did once discover that addressing letters to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AR, England seemed to make one particular employee rather irate.

Yep, you'll get some poor sod on minimum wage who if it was up to them would just refund you. But since the call is doubtless recorded unless they follow the script they get a bad performance evaluation

work...... DVLA..... does not compute.........:lol:

While I am sure it can be awful working there, I doubt you have to meet many stupid targets or actually have much pressure on you. I would imagine you get the occassional interesting caller and I'm sure some idiots to laugh at. Yes you get people ringing up moaning, but you're probably only talking for 5-10mins, as opposed to having to deal with an annoying customer for a day/week whatever.

DVLA would be the ideal place for an Autoshiter to work.

"Hello, I'd like to apply for SORN please"

"OK, can I take the car details?"

......

"That VRM is coming back as a Matra Rancho?"

"Yup"

"What does it need doing? I know a scrapyard with one of them in it, really mouldy like but I bet it's got some nice bits on. I can remember the last time I saw a Rancho, 1992 it was at a show in Watford. Brown. Lovely. Did you know that they share 42% of mechanical parts with a Wartburg? Here, any chance you could email me some photos over? I know some people that would.... hello? Hello? Hello?"
