Has it been off the road for a while? Was just looking online to see what spec it was and saw that the last MOT was a while back before the new one?

Quite probably.  I first saw it in January the day after the previous Mazda 6 was crashed in to and it may have been there a while.  I expect he bought it from an auction to repair and sell on.

When I dropped in last week the engine was out and on the deck.  It was just today he said it had been filled up with diesel that made me think it might be a 'Skyactive', the one with solid cheesium camshafts.

And it is.  The camshafts etc have all been replaced.

I looked at it this morning, walked there which was perhaps not too wise, paid for it then had to take a bus to Chester Le Street to tax* it, then a bus home to insure it, then a bus back to collect it before they closed for the holiday.

 

*Horrendous tax increase.  From £0 to £20.  2L diesel.
