Having seen that pigs ear of a Mini convertible in the ebay thread I have uploaded some pics of one I did 20 years ago.

In 1990 I bought this straight solid little Clubman for 300 sheets

No going back now

After welding in the strengthening kit I prepared it for spraying

Posted Image

Five coats of spray putty later it was time for a rub down

Bearing in mind I did all this after work I don't think the top-coat turned out too bad.It was a working HGV garage so there was plenty of crap floating in the air.

Cant of been a bad job as it lasted a fair while longer.

I tried to find a solid one in the first place looks like I made a good choice if it lasted that long. Here it is eighteen months later when I got my own workshop.Sadly looks like the ebay school of photography though :(

I had to sell it for the deposit on my house but I had two summers worth of fun out of it.

Nice work. Front drums FTW! You must have done a pretty decent job as it lived until 08.

Nice job, looks tidy and the hood looks a good fit.

Must be quite satisfying to know your handiwork lasted 18 more years!

That actually looks really quite good, amazing that it lasted so long afterwards too. The amount of times Ive checked cars from old Street Machines to see them scrapped the year after....

Perhaps its still around?

Could well be, not everyone bothers to sorn a car when the tax runs out, and not everyone gets a fine. Could be just laid up, it would be a strange thing to just suddenly scrap now, especially if it was still road legal in late 2008.

I bought the conversion kit from a place in Ridditch. The chap gave me a discount as there weren't any fitting instructions with it.He sent them a few days later by fax but wrote down the measurements on the box.By the time they arrived I had already cut the old roof off using a jigsaw. The roof was a bit tricky as it used press studs and you had to pop rivet the male ends to the bodywork.Stretching the front tight enough so the middle didn't sag but not so tight you couldn't put the roof back up was the hardest part.Woolies (the trim people) are only a couple of miles from me so I bought some black velor from them and retrimmed the doorcards to match the seats using marine glue and an office stapler.
