Griffins Head 2nd June 2010

Yo

As I pootled home from work, I was passed by a couple of old cars... a Sherpa DHC and summat else. Obviously in convoy. Aha! It's the first Wednesday of the month, and for once I've remembered the Griffins Head meet at Linby. I bumped the car up on the kerb outside the house, ran in for the camera, jumped back in and zoomed off....

Here's the pics. Quite a nice evening for it, sadly I had my camera set to "stupid" mode (ISO 1600, doh) plus I'm trying some arty ones too so apologies if they're bollocks. They're certainly grainy for digital pics!

Amusing night too.... as I was getting a picture of the Lotus Sunbeam a guy walked past with his mate saying "Oh yeah, that's the Nova that OpelVauxhall got Lotus to make for them". His mate tried to correct him but he was having none of it, definately OpelVauxhall that. I bit my tongue long and hard then blurted out "It's a Sunbeam!". He then mumbled something about getting confused with a Carlton and a VX220 and scuttled off.

And the chap with the pukka Golf GTIG60, popped the bonnet and had a chat to me about the motor explaining that it made 225bhp. Cue man-appearing-from-nowhere by my side.... "Don't you think that's too much for a Golf?". a) how random and B) too much power? don't understand. Are accelerator pedals digital devices in your world, pal?

Anyhow.

Crash protection to meet modern safety regulations :?

GR8.5 pics Pillocks.

I would not have been able to photograph the avenger tiger nor lotus sunbeam so well as I would have been experiencing trouser-problems.

Any more info on that Beetle on A8 monoblocks? Not my bag per se but looks interesting.

Also this:

wheels are probably "wrong" or "fail" or whatever you say these days, but I really like the look.

I think those wheels look absolutely shit and have ruined an otherwise very very nice car. Each to their own though :?

Nice pictures.

What is it with old buggers filling their cars with soft toys for shows?

I parked next to one once, silly old sod who was convinced that his '99 mini was the rarest car in the world.

BLAM! How's this for an OJC? :D

Bit much and too new for my taste though...

I've just noticed something embarrasing.... if you look at a lot of the photos, the centrepiece is offset to the left. I just checked the camera and found the eyepiece has slipped so I couldn't see the whole frame. Too used to lining up with the LCD!

Anyhow. The Beetle on monoblocks looked to be a 95% finished WIP, interior was a bit hit and miss but the outside was lovely. I didn't see it arrive but as parked it was too low to move so i'm asuming airbags. Drew a big crowd. Usually owners of big-engined VWs will pop the decklid 5 seconds after parking to show off the shiny bits, this stayed firmly down so standard motor?

Wheels on the blue.... "thing" ( ) were a brave choice and could have worked well, but looked like the totally wrong offset or just too wide up front. Less Modern Classic and more Corsa On Last Set In Halfords Sale.

Very little OJC, there was a Starion but I imagine that to be merely JC.

Nice pics.. I was wanting to go to this but another 13 hr day meant it wasnt possible. Seems a bigger turn out now than a month back - Will have to make a big effort to go soon.

Cheers.

There was quite a lot of short-stay stuff, I got there just after 7 and a couple of folks were just pulling out, but even post-8pm more were arriving so I guess you just have to turn up early and mooch around.

Weather helps, it's quite a small pub so if it's tipping it down you can't use the beer garden, you're either looking at cars or crammed inside.

Well, the earliest I could have been there would've been 8.30 or so.

Last time I got there for 6.30 and left around 8, I think I caught most of them but there's definitely cars of additional interest in your pics..
