WANTED: Cheap Shite (preferably Midlands/Shropshire)

A good friend of our family has found themselves in a somewhat err..."financially challenged" position following an acrimonious divorce (lost house, the lot, thanks to charmless ex- bankrupting them on a post-split spending spree).

 

To cap it all, her car has just undergone a total existence failure - it's probably easier to ask what doesn't need replacing or repairing and she urgently need a cheap replacement.

 

I've been scouring the local free-ads and flea-bay on her behalf, but so far I've failed to turn anything up that isnt water-soluble, dying slowly or in need of as much work as the current vehicle. In the past, I've been lucky at digging up decent £200 Jags, tasty £50 Fiestas and the like, but as per usual, when you're looking for something, there's nothing suitable out there...

 

I know it's a long shot, but I thought I'd post on here and see if anyone was about to part with something cheap and cheerful.

 

Specs: Uber-cheap (preferably sub-£400), Ideally MOT-ed or MOT-able, Tax a bonus, anything considered (large, small, whatever) and ideally in the Midlands.

I *might* have a Corsa 1.5TD here soon. Five door, loads of test supposedly running GR8. No power steering and on Joey Deacon tax but could possibly sort the tax out at cost. Should be within budget but won't know until I've seen/driven it.
