I usually hate these, as they’re seemingly always driven poorly by one of two types of drivers where I live -

A) Food delivery / company car from less well off companies, always driven unpredictably at full tilt, completely oblivious to the traffic around them, usage of indicators, traffic lights and any sort of traffic laws.

B ) People who hate driving, but drive nonetheless. Always driven unpredictably albeit a bit slower than exhibit A, completely oblivious to the traffic around them, usage of indicators, traffic lights and any sort of traffic laws.

In both cases they are falling apart, having at least one light out, and I’m wondering how on Earth did they manage to get that thing insured and registered.

This one I love though, and taking everything else I wrote, that’s saying something.😄 Kudos for keeping it this nice!

Me too, even though I was born in 1985 😂

I only decided to take the car out tonight because my missus insists on watching that love island shit, so figure I’d have a spare hour or so.

none of that back in the 90’s

No we had all sorts of quality* tv like

And

Or the seemingly popular hidious monstrosity of

or perhaps prime Barrymore....1ac4b41a9c1c68fddf3ad19719b3e3cd70923309.jpg.2de9d7790be6e84b81a8301783ef447d.jpg

Yet somehow still preferable to watching love island 😂

Lovely looking car.  I still reckon this mid 90s period was really where the industry had hit Peak Car.  A lot of manufacturers had pretty much cracked how to rust proof things properly, electronics had matured to the point where fuel injection and electronic ignition were by and large things which Just Worked, and cabin ergonomics had pretty much been researched to the ends of the earth.  So you had cars which were reliable, economical, comfortable and had the potential to be very long lived.

Comparing a 20 year old car in the 90s to a 20 year old car today definitely produced a hell of a lot bigger contrast.  I mean my daily these days is 18 years old - and about the only way I can tell it's not made yesterday from the driver's seat is that there isn't a giant stupid bloody touchscreen looking like a bad 90s stereo installation taped to the dash.

Aside from the early 90s generation of Escort which felt like it was made out of recycled milk bottle tops I'd quite happily daily most of the big sellers from that era to be honest.  It's purely parts availability which made me move on from doing exactly that with a Xantia.

That is absolutely the best colour for a Punto as well.  Really was a nicely cleanly penned design as well, which has aged very gracefully.

That's a lovely car. I had a p reg 55sx years ago. It loved being thrashed, the handling was amazing on 14" alloys and it was reliable. Great, fun wee car, like a go-cart!

In case they haven’t seen it I’m going to tag @puntopaul here. 😁

He’s aware of the car, we’ve had many discussions in the past about old punto’s

thank you anyway 👍

Just a couple of wee updates.

I had a strong urge for a Tipo 2.0ie, it’s my dream car and there is one for sale just now, but unfortunately it’s a bit much money for me so man maths dictated that instead of spending £000’s I spent much less and upgraded the car a little bit.

i managed to pick up a new old stock genuine Fiat accessory leather MOMO gear knob and gaiter, and a Punto GT1 leather steering wheel.

the wheel come from Italy and only arrived yesterday so isn’t on the car yet but is mint.

its on sorn for the winter, but can’t wait to re tax it and drive it again.

i also tarted up my garage a wee bit, put a new floor down and some original adverts on the wall.

also if anyone has a mk1 tipo, either a digital dash model or a 2.0 16v , give me a shout

What a great colour! A friend of mine has a blue five-door 85 that's far more capable than anyone would expect. Comfy, smooth, and very good looking. Are the petrol engines all FIRE?

The 1.6 and 1.4 turbo aren’t but the rest are.

i had an 85 16v as my first car and it was quick for a 1.2. I loved it.
