i am looking for a flat 4 alfa engine either 1500 or 1700 to mate up to an imp box to put into my husky, anyone know for one?

very interesting, please escuse my ignorance, but will an Imp box handle all that extra powa ?I grew up around Hartwells, Bournemouth, and was familiar with all the specials that came out their workshop door, but surely that alfa flat 4 will chuck out a whole lot more bhp/torque.... just wondering ! :)

depends how you drive it i suppose, but there are a lot of tuned imps about that have standard boxes that take a lot of abuse, another way is to fit a skoda rapide 5 speed gearbox.

Could you not use a VW or Subaru engine instead ?(As they are easier to get hold of ... not exactly cheap thou')

don't like the vw engine, subaru is a possability but you are stuck with a 1.8 or a 2.0, and they are heavy, the alpha has been used before and work well, 1.5 would be good but would settle for a 1.7. were the arna engines flat four 1.5?

My Dad's got a 1.7 in a Sportwagon, but he told me yesterday that he was thinking of putting it into the 146 Boxer he's just bought.

Sorry, irrelevant to your search but I just had a vision of a Jowett Javelin with an Alfa boxer transplant. :D

Nice idea seth, but what about an Alfa 33 Veloce with a Jowett engine.

Would an Alfa gearbox not be a better choice with an Alfa engine? 5 close ratios, inboard discs too.Can you flip the crownwheel and pinion over so you don't have 5 reverse gears and one forward? If you think that's important

i was thinking down the line of a mk 1 mr2 engine and box as well, does anyone know for a cheap as chips mr2?

The Subaru flat four is available as a 1.5 or 1.6, a 1.3 was offered, but not in the UK as far as I know.
