MOT Expiry date question?

My MOT expires on 4th May (tommorow).Can I go and tax it tommorow, or will I need to MOT it and then tax it?

If the MOT is valid on the day you tax it it's O.K., so you'll be alright to tax it-JUST!

My son taxed his last week, with one day left on the MOT. Then took it and MOT'd it.

From the website :-"MOT test certificateYou must produce an MOT test certificate that’s valid on the day the tax disc comes into force. A certificate that expires on the last day of the month eg 30 April can’t be used if the tax disc is to start on the first day of the following month eg 1 May. The certificate must be original, a photocopy is not acceptable."

If any post office tells you this they are well and truly WRONG. Just complain to the manager and point out the info given already in this post.

Or you could tax it on line - that rules out the post office grumpy bastard problem.

If your tax is due on the first of the month, your MOT expires on the second of the month, you could in theory tax the car using the expired MOT from the third of the month onwards.

I understand your theory, but I bet the computer say no! Even though it was valid when the tax comes into force, it will have expired when you buy it. Then again, I have taxed something I have just MOT'd on the 10th, and the tax goes back to the 1st, when there was no MOT on the car!
