Alloy Wheels - Stubborn Brake Dust Removal Tip

After seeing this stuff mentioned on another forum, thought I'd share it here. I have a set of wheels which are minging on a major scale and don't look like they've ever been cleaned. Tried loads of products with little success until now.

I bought some of this stuff, brushed it on each wheel left it for 2 mins and rinsed off. Crap just falls off the wheel leaving a nice shiny surface. Did all 5 of my wheels with a small brush and just half a cupful used neat.

Don't bother with the brand stuff and get trade stuff.

Don't know whether it'll disintigrate your wheels, but I shifted thick, old oil stains from a driveway with this. It just went all green and foamy and bubbly and within minutes the oil was gone. This also shifts corrosion, like acid dipping.

I think that stuff that Station suggests is the same as Patio cleaner (i could be VERY wrong) ... but Patio cleaner is very good at removing rust and oil stains

Is that the seriously acidic stuff? It's just like the alloy wheel cleaner we used to use when I was valeting years ago. Brings wheels up in a nice bright silver, and kills ground in brake dust, no problem.Highly recommended, but don't let it dry, it'll dull your wheels, and stain horribly.

Think it's the same stuff minimad, the active ingredient is caustic acid (I think).

Definitely don't leave it on the wheel for more than a couple of minutes.

Brick cleaner is usually Hydrochloric acid which will dissolve aluminium if you leave it too long. I used it in my rust removal dip tub before I discovered Chemodex. I once put aa chrome plated aluminium part in it and left it over night. By morning all that was left was a hollow chrome shell! Powerful stuff!
