It pays to ask!

Had a weekend in York dog sitting for my parents, which usually is pretty boring. In between the showers, I took the little darlings for a walk and decided to take a slightly different path home. I'm so glad I did!

I was talking cars with Mrs_cav then stopped dead in my tracks when we passed a skip. A family was moving out of their home and were busy chucking all sorts of stuff in, when I saw this 1/25th scale Tamiya kit:

It says 'Remote control double motorised all metal gearbox' on the box lid but there's only evidence of this:

Not only that, but this was stuck underneath it:

Sadly, one of the sons had put the box in the skip upside down so some bits are missing, including the side panels which should be under the seat and probably a bit more. I've only had a glimpse at the tank model and, like the Kawasaki it's been started, so most likely other bits besides the motors aren't there.

So, what to do with them? I know they're 'vintage' Tamiya kits but incomplete and started, so would anyone really be interested? Either way, it beats them being sent to the tip and the guy seemed genuinely pleased that someone wanted them and thanked me for helping empty his skip!

8) I would love something like that Tiger tank one.Maybe put them on ebay as incomplete - a collector might find a use for the bits.Crazy what people throw away. I am a bit of a hoarder myself.

Being in the process currently I can tell you that there are nutters out there who will pay for in complete old kits, although this is the BUT and it is a big BUT, only if they are rare (they have been released many times and the market is awash with them or they lie in the kit shite sector (i.e. dieing out, but only a limited number of people want them etc) then they are worth sweet f*ck all although I am sure someone will at least pic up one of those for pieces for other kits. Basically what I'm trying to say is they could be worth something or they might be worth about as much as "truthful" statement from Tony Blair about WMDs but you can only find that out by putting them on ebay and testing the market!m0rris

I had a look on Ebay today but didn't see that much. Most stuff looked to be re-issues from Hong Kong or mint condition bodyshells for 80's RC cars at prices like £350!

TBH the boxes are worth more than the kits, if they had been complete and unbuilt there would have been a better market, I price my collection up occasionally and have watched there value plummet in the last couple of years

Hey, ive got that tiger kit at home. Its pretty nice once built up actually!Actually, it may be a slightly smaller scale to that, and its not motorised. Tamiya stuff is good quality and still quite sought after, espcially the older kits. Id ebay them and see what happens. Id make an offer for the tiger, but I have a loft full of unstarted kits! There wasn't a 1/72 Armstrong-Whitworth Whitley in there was there?
