sutty2006 Posted September 19 Author Posted September 19 I’ve been looking out for replacement rear light guard for a while, as this one’s been broken since I bought it. (Glued together lower right) ebay had a poor selection, and decent ones are expensive. Someone’s even remade them with a plastic printer but they look shite. so I found a box a few days ago that came with the car, and I knew that had two upper covers in it. I decided today to look into the box, and found a complete full set of guards (upper and lower) AND a 3rd lower guard that is a replacement for the one that’s broken! WINNER! full fitting kit with instructions so todays been a bonus, as that was a free repair, and the kit had a bolt kit that I robbed a bolt out of for the front light guard as ones missing. happy days Westbay, Matty, mk2_craig and 8 others 11
sutty2006 Posted Sunday at 21:00 Author Posted Sunday at 21:00 More Landrover shenanigans this weekend. A few weeks ago it FTPd at my new place of work. Which was a “shit my pants” experience as our car park is gate accessed, and work hasn’t issued me a pass yet. Luckily there was one dude left so he kindly waited for me to get it started before leaving 🤣. it would fire but immediately die. I’d tried locking it to reset the imobiliser but that didn’t work. I could really hear the fuel pump very well so ordered a new one and fitted it (£140) the starting issue went away but came back after a few days. It felt like cycling the ignition a few times would prime the system enough for the main pump to catch it. But alas, the fault returned. I had serviced it a couple of weeks ago, and fitted britpart filters. It has been starting ok (if a little rough) the last few days but I have thrown the britpart filter in the bin and fitted a Bosch. Starts perfectly but I will know 100% for sure over the next few days. it also developed a fucking horrible rattle from the drivers door (at idle). And I mean, so horrible I wanted to set it on fire. I had the door card off a few times to tighten things and check for loose shit but nothing cured it. In fact it got worse. Today, I pulled the card off again. wait…. Can’t be? yep, the motor bracket is cracked. Now, this car came with a box of spares, so instead of ordering a new one, let’s check that box first. I don’t believe it….. but I gots to, I’m looking right at it! you little beauty! winner!! without further ado, I pulled the only regulator out. the plug was missing, have I worked on this before? nope. Oh well, everything refitted and attempted to fit the door card but broke the lock rod off. Found a spare green toggle thing and broke that off too! Running out of ideas, I found a spare door lock and luckily it had a good one fitted! Can’t believe I broke it twice. hopefully tomorrow’s run to work starts ok and doesn’t rattle! sutty2006 Posted Monday at 19:35 Author Posted Monday at 19:35 Captains log. Star date, 17th nov. The lack of rattle has impressed the crew of hmsTD5, so much so that all other rattles are now audible. For now, the crew can rest before the next mission. Watch this space. N Dentressangle Posted Monday at 20:59 Posted Monday at 20:59 Looks like the ghost of Spen King is tempering his malevolence. Always nice to find you've already got the part in stock! I need to change the NSF regulator on my Disco 1 this week - it's mangled to fuck and makes horrible cracking noises.

I swore years ago I wouldn’t buy their cheap and nasty crap, but my local LR parts shop sells the service kit for about £27. It was fine with the last kit last year, but this one has just taken the biscuit. No more britpart service kits for this old tub!
comfortablynumb Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago I've refused to fit anything made by them now. There's even a review by someone online saying that they'd never had a britpart item fail on them.... Reason being the quality was so bad, it wouldn't actually fit in the first place! And someone else who worked for them, and wouldn't touch them with a bargepole 🥺

Its their electrical components that never seem to work. Back before I had aftermarket electronic ignition fitted I routinely used to buy multiple points and condensors in the hope of getting at least one of each that worked properly. It does make fault finding tricky when you can't rely on the new component working any better than the faulty one you already have. Jenson Velcro, sutty2006 and comfortablynumb 1 2

A wiper motor and multiple switches either faulty straight out of the box or not lasting 12 months for my Defender. warch 1

Unfortunately not just electrical, we've had wheel cylinders, seals, brake shoes, even gaskets either fail, or so poorly manufactured they wouldn't fit in the required place Parts quality is generally a bit suspect these days, but what's the saying? Buy cheap, buy twice 🙄 Jenson Velcro 1
sutty2006 Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago I fitted a new indicator lamp to my 300tdi after smashing it off at a pay n play. Had to fit a new plug too. It was rotten within 5 days and the indicator full of water. Utter garbage. I also know someone who worked in QC department of Britpart and the amount of shit coming through there was appalling
