It's been refurbed but doesn't actually work? Sounds like a job well done.I recently had the alternator on the Bluebird fail. I got a kit off ebay for £20 which has a rectifier, regulator and brush assembly, slip rings and bearings in it. The thing still looks like a skanky old alternator but it works perfectly now. All you need to fix it is a few hand tools and a soldering iron.

he said it was not charging at all, had it refurb'd as ok for a year then started whining again and not charging, i'll blame the french on this one...i've said to him as its his daily for work a new alternator would be better really, nice of him to tell me today that it needs fixing for tuesday, this isnt gonna happen unless he picks it up himself lol

I had an MR2 with a totally knackered alternator. I was skint and realised I had an MGF alt sitting round and thought I'd chance it and try to get it to fit. Surprisingly, it went straight on, needed no work, even though the alts were from two completely different manufacturers.I'm saying you could probably put one on from a similar Japanese car from the same era. :)

'New' alternators are often refurbished old alternators with a lick of paint, so I don't see the point.
