out and about in my taxi

Proton were only known as Protons here - I guess they decided to remove the totally appropriate 'Saga' badging to avoid those elderly connotations. You know those 70 to 90 year old yobs driving on the wrong side of the M1 known as saga-louts. I think the brochures would have refered to them to their 1300 and 1500cc engine sizes to avoid confusion. There are quite a few good conditioned ones knocking around. Very much the Datsun Sunny of the day.

I don't think they really had a name, just "1.5GL" etc. They seem to be referred to as MPi in price guides. I don't know why they didn't call them SAGA here, it seems to fit somehow.

That Toyota Camry Prominent looks like slightly altered Mazda Xedos 6 :? Never knew SEATs were imported over there!

That's the first time I've seen a Nissan N13 badged as a Sentra. Previously I've only seen the B11/B12 models with that name. Were they all badged Sentra there?

The bus appears to be going to some sort of university for chemistry. The first two characters are too blurred, but will be the name of the uni. Taiwan or HK for sure.

That Daewoo was a rejected design proposal to be the successor to the mk3 Chavalier, ie, Vectra. I recall seeing it in CAR magazine a gazillion years ago. I also recall seeing the finished article and saying "Yuck!" too. That said, a friend of my sister's had a top-range Daewoo Espero while they were at Uni (Queens, Belfast). Comfy and reasonably quick. These are dirt cheap now.

That CLS is a long way from home...wonder what the shipping charges were to get that to NZ from the UK? No Ford Tauruses were sold here, they sold 'em in Oz too. A failure by all accounts...

P76s are wonderful, just wonderful. If the evidence is to be believed, actually a much better car than the contemporary Valiant, Falcon and Holden, just never equalled the sum of it's parts mainly due to manufacturing quality.

The 4ltr V8 often pops up in Landies etc here..my Dad in Aussie used to call them the P38..cos they were only half a car..and he bought a new Austin Tasman...utter aussie leyland shite. At our local car show here in Wangavagus..there was a P76 Force 7 coupe..only about 11 may still exist 10 in aussie n mebbe the one i saw here..amazingly n incredibly ugly fantastic..i kicked myself for not getting a photo of it...did some research..

I was looking for a Mitsubishi Debonair photo and found it on here . It may be worth a look for some tat I saw about at the time. The Ford model A was a favourite as it was 150 miles from home and NOT a trailer queen.

Enjoy a look.

Apparently that CLS never made it back over here - last taxed 2008.

Prob. had just arrived with some economic refugees !

Weird update time.....years later

I just happened on this today by accident and decided to check if this Marina was still about.  Note the photo is dated 2008 . Car jam, the site that holds the car info says it was de-registered on  Jan 25th 2002.  The photo is still showing on page 1 of this thread !
