Paint done. 

 

Polishing and wet sanding in a couple of weeks. 

 

Tyres in progress, unfortunately over a few days. 

 

So interior bits started getting attention. 

 

Found the original rear view mirror under the passenger seat. 

 

Reaffixed that, Thanks to National Windscreens. 

 

Then looked at seat covers. 

 

They are in crazy good condition for a 34 year old, 181567 mile car. 

 

But my butt itching never really stopped. 

So I pulled out the two Serape blankets that I have had stashed for years. 

 

First one fitted around the rear seat. 

 

Happy with that. 

 

Plan is to try another one of those first time I give it a go activities. 

 

But I need a sewing machine, an overlocker and possibly some guidance on creating the patterns I need. It will be two done, multicoloured serape on too and the support sections around the edges, back of backrest etc in a nice denim blue. 

 

Making a full seven piece front seat cover set, using the second blanket. 

 

There is an asymmetrical seat, two backrests, two headrests and an armrest that folds away to become the backrest to the third seat up front. 

 

For those who don’t know……

 

This car is actually a 6 seater. 

 

Three up front and three out back. 

 

And a couple of dead bodies and a shovel in the trunk. 

 

 

So I started easy. 

 

Went for a drive and filled the car with stupidly inflated priced petrol. 

 

Car was pretty. Fuel prices were not. 

 

$120.00 for a 3/4 tank. 

 

Pretty Dumb ehhh.

Next small job (that typically doesn’t take a small amount of time) was the inner C-Pillar caps. 

 

34 years of sun damage, one was found in the trunk and the other leaving debris like elephant dandruff on the rear parcel shelf, it was obvious something had to be done. 

 

So I stripped both out and took them to the shop. 

 

Wire brushed front and rear. 

 

Painted a few coats of rattle can sepia brown to try consolidate the fibrous material they were made of, and left to dry out. 

 

Followed by cutting fabric roughly to shape, contact adhesive and then trimmed to size and shape. 

 

Gloated a lot for managing to circumvent this little problem.

But I have been wrong before. 
 

At £60.00 for a set, they are not high risk, but I would not walk down the street and drop ££60.00 or $80.00 on the sidewalk for someone else to pick up and go buy burgers with.

I am really enjoying it. 

 

Popped in at a guy who drag races a Trabant wagon with a 3.5 V8 in. 

 

I got Completely distracted by the rest of his barn.

Started “restoring” the interior of my 1992 Oldsmobile 88.

Rotten C Pillar caps first.

When I bought the car, one was in the trunk/boot and the other, looking rather sad, still attached to the inside of the car. 

 

With a multitude of jobs now done or in progress, I had some time last week to start on the interior changes that were not planned, but certainly have presented themselves since 27 December when I bought the car. 

 

 

So part two was fitting the pieces back in the car. 

 

I also decided to try out the rear parcel shelf for a colour/color change. 

 

This will be redone when I am in a full dismantling mood. 

 

But I like it. 

 

Also realised the upholstery inside could be addressed. 

 

Can of worms??

 

 

This is PART TWO of the recovering. 

 

 

 

 

Now I need to find someone locally who owns an industrial sewing machine that will let me use it to make up some seat covers. 

 

Yup……

 

I want to give that a try.

Happy that I followed my own mind with the tyres here. 
Usually it’s a pretty suspect 

But the tyres have improved the look and ride hugely. 
 

Yesterday I also added my hand made center caps 

Firstly  I added high density foam inside the center cap recesses  then used Sikaflex type clear adhesive and masking tape to position them.

Left them 18 hours and removed the tape  

Then took a 70 mile drive to visit mate Darren.

More pics of that little excursion later  

And today the tape came off. 
 

I am certainly enjoying the look it has created.

Followers of my random travels and activities will remember this car, 1934 Ford that I traveled 500 miles to collect in a cash deal for Dennis, only to realise after a shop tour and lunch with the seller, that the cash was still in Dennis’ workshop. 
 

But we got it all sorted in the end. 
 

So a 1000 miler, followed two days later by Dennis and I running 400 miles up to Kansas again and dinner in Nebraska, 180 miles back to near Kansas City and off to Pete and Jakes the next morning to order a bunch of parts for his impending build, once the Chevelle was completed.
