Lot of work!!

All you had to do was to take the cap off and drop in a lit match.

Voila!! Instant boom box 💥

Sorry.....😁

Actually rinsed it, knowing thinners are as unstable as my ex fiasco was.

Yeah, that's what I do when I cut up old gas bottles, full them with water first.

I don't need the excitement..

And just like that, it sounds like this.

Super slooowww weekend.
Pedro brought in a super nice chopper knife for the kitchen

He also cooked dinner last night…..

Prawns in garlic, butter, herbs and some ham.
Possibly 2.7 heart attacks per serving.
the camera absolutely did not capture the colour or smells. Plate is actually green.

Today is yard work after three days of extreme wind and rubbish weather.
Also got to clean up the Mission Cycles tricycle to sell on Marketplace or wherever.
And maybe do some metal bashing.

Saw a pair of used C10 doors for sale

Thats a lot of money.

Astro doing Astro things.

Awesome Tool/Toy this.

Perfect blend of Form/Function

Every time I get the itch to sell it and get a new mistress (station wagon) this sort of thing happens.

It works.

Simple ehhh ?

In other news, Pedro ordered me a shirt off Temu/AliExpress/NoClue online.

And I love it.

SOOOOOO

TYPICALLY GRIZZ CHANGED THE RULES

VW T4/5 seems to be a bust.

So changing the brand, same questions as before.

My thoughts are probably more MPV/People carrier though.

Tell me more.

Back to looking for van people carrier type stuff.

A few people have suggested Renault Trafic (also known as Vivaro and Primastar)

The pics below show how we can be fooled.

Talk to me.

Show me.

my cousin has a vivaro, has owned it at least 12 years, uses for dragging rally car about when needed, also caravan on the odd occasion, roomy family transport for days out!  not given any major trouble in the 70ish k hes put on it although in the last month the clutch fell apart and the slave cylinder failed, but its back up and running again, and i think hes pleased with it! he also has a transit he uses for work, so that keeps this tidy!

my mechanic friend has the renault badged one and he uses his for trial bike ferrying and camping! so quite versatile things! hes had his for a good few years too! not sure if that info is of any help!

I think we forget that at 200k miles (I saw a 541k mile Vivaro for sale) these things need MAINTENANCE and many people are just idiots for this. Obviously there is also the other end of that spectrum.

i feel i must add that had my cousin any doubts about the reliability of his 07 120k van im sure he would not have took it to france with wobble box in tow! (where said clutch decided to implode) normally good strong vans abeit some on the used market have not had much time or care thrown at them!

Maintenance and Wear and Tear is something that has nothing to do with reliability.

Always amazed when I see stuff with 543389 miles or  874000km on record for sale.

Implies that with maintenance vehicles can last.

@juular made these observations.

Suggesting its a good weekend’s work to see right.

2001-2006. Good agricultural engine. Shit wiring made from hay. The early 82bhp 5 speed version feels quite underpowered and undergeared.

2006-2011. Smoother engine. Major problems with injectors failing due to scuttle and head design and weak piezo injectors.

2011-2013. Revised head, scuttle and injectors. DPF added. Some got cruise control.

Applies to all : weak gearboxes. All 2.0s must have chain replaced around 100-120k. EGRs can cause problems.

Good points :

Rarely rust. Comfortable and French driving feel. 2.0 goes quite well. Good MPG (40+ on longer journeys). Otherwise quite solid and parts are cheap and plentiful. Lots of space in the back due to straight sides.

Mine asked me for very little between 30k and 120k, then started costing money on timing chain and gearbox rebuild, as well as mileage related stuff like alternator and suspension bits.

Absolutely fucking grim to work on anything on the engine bay. The front end has to come off. On the plus side once you've done it once, you can do it again in 25 minutes.

I like mine.

Remember that fire grate I repaired for Jo’s log burner?

I managed to get my thumb injured (sprain or more) at the time, thumb pic is 20 Sept.

Anyway, I’m still struggling with it and avoiding the bedside panel beating because it hurts and is not as strong as it should be.

So other jobs have filled my time.

This week Mickey and I spent a day clearing and burning a load of junk and plants.

I also have started making some more flying eyeballs in the style of Von Dutch to sell.

They will not be cheap but I challenge the detractors to make their own and calculate the real cost in time and materials.

Last night Pedro brought some used 1 and 3 ton slings. Health and safety dictate single use on site.

Crazy how much they waste.

But I guess a disposable £10.00 strap is cheaper than a multi million litigation

George woke me up today

Couple of things happened in the background this week.

Mickey and I spent two days, seriously, burning stuff in our shared fire drum incinerator whick is (was) nearing the end of its lifespan.

So I posted a WANTED FREE addon my local FB group only to have the first reply from some dickhead, telling me they were worth money and people were selling them. (Well, I promptly replied to him, you can guess how)
His response was followed by a guy asking how many I needed and offering to drop some off on Friday or Saturday.
Mickey had mentioned he wanted another for his one son, so I said two please.
So the new one is already drilled and got rosebush cuttings in.
And I get to keep the 2/3 of the old one that is still left over.

LIFE IS GOOD.

Friend John discovered a new Jack Daniels variant and grabbed me a bottle. £18.50
I hope my money is well spent.

In other news……

Stuart, my neighbor two houses down messaged me the following.

Hi mate.
Got a husqvarna sit on mower. Dont mow anymore but has a v twin briggs and Stratton engine which is good
Any use to you ?

Of course I would say yes.

Next exchange went this way……

Might have been wishful thinking “free of charge “ Think he wants a drink for it as engine is good

And screenshot is the story so far.

In the meantime George went mad this week.

I sold the little British Anzani outboard motor to a South African collector and restorer.
A friend of his popped in to collect it on Friday afternoon and stayed here for about 4 hours.
Kindred Spirits is what I think.
George spent over 30 minutes on Noel’s lap out on the deck. Never seen George do that with anyone.

Of course when I want something from George, like attention, he licks his butt.

Pedro, the magpie, brought a han full of self drilling screws he found under a 30 foot or 10 meter platform. The steel workers drop screws and fasteners and NEVER recover them from the dirt. Pedro, like me……. Is not proud.

THATS LIFE.

Busy investigating a new option of unstable mental illness……

750km from my place..…..

2003 Renault Trafic camper van.

DOES NOT RUN.

274000 km or 170k miles done. .

Price  £350.00

Plus one way train ticket to Glasgow.

Book in at Bill’s place, pray friend Gordon has time, inclination and knowledge to guide me for a fast repair to get it running again.

Plus find faults,  buy parts, fix problems, pray a lot, MOT and insure, road tax and drive home via another stop, collect a free medium trailer for @Craigrk , drive to his place in Shropshire, drop off, then drive 204 miles or 330km home.

Bad idea??

Yup……. I guess my garage should be called Cr@p Idea Laboratory.

Waiting to find out about the cost of insurance for a van.

In this country insurance is a total scam and rip off imho.

Check the MOT history online to create your own set of insults and warnings.

Prior to last MOT it had a very good history.

So remember those Von Dutch flying eyeball wall hangers that I had started making?

They are done.

One way to see what happens when you create stuff is the YouTube videos that just don’t seem to satisfy many people.

Here it is.

So after creating the template, I copied, cut out and refined the wings.

I used the rusted, burned away old fire drum to make the best one imho for mate Darren’s Hotrod shop wall.

The metal Pedro and I had rescued has turned out to be real high grade quality.

So necessitated using the Drum Sander to try tear off some of the anti corrosion protection.
Followed by a vinegar test run, ultimately I used Balsamic vinegar and got a moderate reaction.

I have decided not to go try find some Hydrochloric acid to increase the reaction as it seems to blend better with the two silver, patina’d spoke rims.

I added rear supports, made of a discarded roadwork sign frame, found discarded in a ditch years ago.

Wings can be bolted or welded onto the braces depending on buyer’s preference.

A few pics for those who never comment.

Wcpgw?

Seen vicegrip garage, or that English guy in France?

Not stupid if it works

Otherwise that's what breakdown is for.

Go for it, it's a van, engine crane and spare lump in the back.

I'm prone to doing stupid stuff like this, even had a copper sadly shake his head at me and quickly drive off in the opposite direction, so any advice given by me best ignored

Good luck!

WCPGW?

Took me a minute to figure out what it means.

Road tax £345/y

Justcampers insurance £300/y basic cover.

Potential repair cost - FK?

Train up to Scotchland, recovery insurance and diseasel back = £???.??

Need to do what I struggle with…… approach with caution 😉
