I'm abit stuck filling out the V62 form for the Rebel, as i don't know what the Tax class is.It's believed to be made in '72, so if i am correct makes it Tax Exempt. The Reg is T- - - - -L which falls on the border of 01 August 1972, to 31 July 1973.So i ask you fellow shiters,What should i put in the Tax Class space ?Petrol Car. Historic Vehicle Or just put "Petrol Car" and wait untill i see the month and date of registration ?Sorry for the stupid Question

It's down to build date. Some cars might be registered '73 but built in 1972 if that is the case then it's historic.Your best bet is an owners club as they might be able to tell from the chassis plate.

I owned a Reliant Robin for years; its taxation class is "Motor Tricycle". I always made a point of taxing it at a post office, as opposed to using the internet, as I loved to watch the reaction of the staff.... Hysterical was the normal one, usually followed by "I haven't taxed one of these for years, mate!" If the car was first registered on or before 31st December 1971 (as stated on the V55) it will qualify for "historic" taxation class, subject to you applying for it. If the car was registered after 1st Jan 1972 BUT it can be proved that it was built before 31st Dec 1971 you might still qualify for "historic" taxation, subject to an examination of the vehicle by the local D.V.L.A. (I've been through this procedure; it's actually quite easy!) Good luck with everything. If you need more info, pm me!

That's the one! Give the DVLA a call, they were really helpful with me - my Landy's 1952 through and through but is PLG on it's logbook (off the road for 15 years), just need to take it to the local offices and get it changed over the counter apparently! If you can prove it's built in '72 you'll be laughing, take it all the parts are/ are close to what was on it originally? There's a points system for cars to be legible for tax exemption, but unless you've done something huge to it it'll be fine 8)

Thanks for the replies guys, and sorry for the slow reply to you all (Have been looking at the spares in the boot and arsing around)i have found (thanks to the online DVLA enquiry) the following :Date of Liability 01 05 1983Date of First Registration 20 10 1972Year of Manufacture Not AvailableCylinder Capacity (cc) 700CCCO2 Emissions Not AvailableFuel Type PetrolExport Marker Not ApplicableVehicle Status UnlicensedVehicle Colour WHITESo if i am correct, this means i can put "Historic Vehicle" ?Again guys and gals. sorry for being a dumbass

Yep, Tax ex for you :)Although, as the date of liability is 83 it'll be down as PLG on the V5

If you are applying for a log book, you need to put it's CURRENT tax class down, even if it's legible for Historic. If it doesn't say how much a year's tax is on the online details, it's already Historic. If it has a price, it's still PLG and once you have the V5, you can change it. Get it wrong, and they will send you a nasty letter and hunt you down and kill you.

WOOP ! 8) Thank you very much everyone for you'r help.Thank god i had exactly £25 hidden in my wallet !SORN and V62 form + Cheque = Sent off ASAPEdit ..Fred Transit, i have never had a reply from DVLA even when a certain someone fooked up the V5 for the fiesta (And no it wasn't me)And trust me , it was well goofed.

So what does it say online as to how much the tax is? If it doesn't say a price, it will be free.

Date of Liability 01 05 1983Date of First Registration 20 10 1972Year of Manufacture Not AvailableCylinder Capacity (cc) 700CCCO2 Emissions Not AvailableFuel Type PetrolExport Marker Not ApplicableVehicle Status UnlicensedVehicle Colour WHITEVehicle Type Approval Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle 6 Months Rate £68.7512 Months Rate £125.00 That's what it fully says.So i'm gonna just put on the V62 "Petrol Car" , and then put in a nice little letter saying something like :I am lead to believe that the car is classed as an Historic Vehicle, which is therefore Tax Exempt, as it was first registered in 1972.As i am not 100% sure on this fact, i have written "Petrol Car" in the Tax Class area on the V62 form. Then HOPEFULLY i will get a V5 back with answers :)

I would say currently it's PLG, though I have never had anything under 1.6L to get the cheaper tax. Yes it will be Historic once you change it, because of it's age. The 'first registered' date is given as pre 1973, which is all you need. Historic is a kind of tax class, same as PLG, but it needs to be actually on the log book to get free tax. I have heard of people paying for the tax and getting it back automatically from the DVLA, with a new log book. Don't know if they still do this though.
