Precautionary tale about leaving your car on your driveway

My folks have been patient enough to allow me to use their driveway to store one my cars over the years on their driveway - it always a source of argument between myself and mother dearest, she's threatened to call the scrapman of which I simply walk away mumbling. I don't think she'll actually ever do it. Of all the cars that have been parked over the years, my 13 year old 106 Rallye looks by far the cleanest and most roadworthy looking. It was sat there on private land, sorned and awaiting my attention quite happily for 2 years. About a month ago, I got a visit by a young lad who insisted in me selling the car to him. I was quite reasonable and explained to him it wasn't for sale and told him that I planned to get the car back on the road. He left his name and mobile number with me and I thought that was that.I came back the following weekend to the house (folks were away) and noticed that someone had kicked the side of the car, damaging the rear arch and paintwork. Too much of a co-incidence to not assume it wasn't the same lad? Perhaps by damaging it he assumed I would sell it to him cheap? The lad didn't appear very bright, and could he have been that stupid to leave his details? After the initial rage of some little thug damaging my car, I decided to report it to the police, who to their credit, explained there is very little they can do despite the possible evidence I had. The upside is that I pulled my finger out and got it through an MOT - all it needed was a set of disks and pads and had one advisory!

So is that a sad story with a happy ending then? It's a shame that it took the scourge of today's society to act as a catalyst but it doesn't surprise me one little bit, people do whatever the hell they like these days, other people's property is every other person's property! :?

Twat! To be fair I suppose it might not have been him, could have been a coincidence although I rather doubt it. Still, at least it got you to MOT it so it's not entirely bad :?

Now you are sure it wasn't your mum?

Hmmm...the plot thickens. Judging by the muddy evidence and the force required can only mean she hired someone else to do it. Probabily mercenaries or the mafia.

Bummer. But good to hear the Rallye is back on the road. You spoke of it with some fondness back in the summer.

there was a black van with a red stripe round your way the other week  try calling the lad and telling him the car has been damaged so now you might sell it if he is still mad keen then its probably been him.this happened a good few years back to a colt i had parked in the parents drive the lad left his contact details and a month or so later the car had its windows put out and wings dented, he was then stoopid enough to come back round still trying to buy it off the fither who told him to pish off  when i returned from work to find this out i though fcuk it im going round his place to ask him straight up, i took a couple off mates just incase hunted down the addy he left the first time and low and behold his place was very easy to find due to the garden full of old colts.after confronting him he caved in and said sorry mate but ive always fancied a turbo colt  so after telling him we are heading straight to the police station he offered up the parts off one off his cars to sort it  what a mong

I have heard of this being an old pikey trick, damage something till it's sold. Hunt the little scrote down and er, give him a good questioning....

Why would they still want it after they've damaged it? :? Seem like cutting off their nose to spite their face!?

Agreed, but it does happen. If you don't sell it (or sell to somebody else) it's worth less anyway.

Damaging your car is a tw@'s trick, but have you really got any evidence it was him? Glad you got it MoT'd anyway.

Admittedly I have no real evidence to suggest it was him. I just feel that its too much of a co-incidence that the somewhat insistant enquiry (he had the audacity to ask why won't I sell it, and commented that its been sat there for ages) and then the damage the following weekend just a bit too much of a co-incidence.....anyway I'm not going to let the little bastard get the better of me.
