You could devise a drinking game based on all the Ford special editions of the 1980's.

Hello new to this site as found it on searching for CORTINA Mk3 on internet, BUT TO ANSWER QUESTION of the "L Decor BADGE", you need to find a Owner with an "ORIGINAL" car, and who has had it FROM NEW!.

One of my Mk3 Cortinas is a 1600cc OHC Automatic "L Decor" which we have owned 36 years!!!, so I KNOW the (L Decor) better than anyone!!!!!!!.

ONLY cars made between August 1973 and August 1974 should be fitted with the L Decor badge, (it was fitted on Consul/Granada/Escort/Capri aswell as the Cortina!). ONLY Series Two (M) reg or a few EARLY (N) reg cars had the badge, the cars spec was Black loop pile carpet, (better quality than 1973 "L") Heated rear window, 3 speed interior Fan, Factory fitted option was Fabric faced seats, as on mine!,(not many L Decors had these fitted, almost all had Vyinl seats) also A VINYL ROOF, with L Decor badgee on the sides (on my car),like the "GXL" or "E" models have, and twin side stripes, also an Ariel on front N/S wing, (radio/cassette options were available) from Ford. The "L DECOR" was available witht he 1300cc OHV or the 1600cc OHC, (A GREAT ENGINETHE WAY!!!!- if you look after it right!) mine has done 300,000 MILES!, (3 times around the clock on the ORIGINAL ENGINE) NOT rebiult!, and the AUTOMATIC gearbox only needed a reverse switch replacement.

Ford made the new "L Decor badge" to de-note the new 1974 model range, with New Flat dash, New roof grab handels, new seat design etc, a rare model now, especially in ORIGINAL unmolested form, but then so are most Mk3's, The "L Decor" was made in the UK, at Dagenham, though Dutch built cars did get imported, some export models had the same badge with the word (DECOR) replaced with (DELUX). so now you know about the "L Decor"! . love to hear from fellow Mk3 owners if you have one of them, or any model , especially if kept "original" like mine.

Thanks for the info!

Both the L Decor models owned by my family were 1300 four door models. Neither of them had an aeriel fitted from new though. I don't recall a three speed fan either but I stand to be corrected!

One of our Decor models was registered on the 1/7/75 so I will have to take issue with you saying that on early 1975 models were badged that way!

The reg numbers were KMB 390 N and HTU 970 N. Both now well recycled into washing machines I'm afraid!

'Produced' and 'registered' possible causing some confusion there?

I think due to strikes Ford had a waiting list back in 1975! they sold every car they made within days.
