My 1987 Polo, happily doing 6 miles a day

So the obvious thing to do is drive it all the way to Ipswich and back on Friday (a hundred miles each way), then 200 miles each way to south Wales the following day.I can confirm that the 5 speed box gives "sporty" rather than "refined" cruising, but even with 135,000 on the clock it was happily singing its heart out, at between 4000 and 4500rpm :D Fuel economy was a bit disappointing at only 40mpg, especially as it does 35mpg trundling to work. The journey to Wales was done with the 3 kids in the car, 90mph is GR8 4 NOT HEARING ARGUMENTZ. The only mishap was when I was following a bloke in a Bentley coupe, he was doing 65mph in the outside lane so I couldn't get past. I waited for a while then flashed my lights, he pressed the accelerator a millimetre and zipped up to 80ish, all is well. Until he comes to the next car in the middle lane where he slows down and matches its speed :roll: The chap in the middle lane was asleep so I nipped past on the inside lane (v.naughty, but I didn't want to get mixed up with the Bentley driver's inferiority complex) and resumed the nice 75-80mph as before. The Bentley shot past at a good 100+ a mile or two later then left on a sliproad.I hope he had a nice time telling his mates how he blew away a 20+ year old VW Polo. He was in his 50s, dressed sensibly so it's just weird. The roads are dangerous enough with people being stupid by accident, why do it on purpose?Back to today, the Polo took its 3 mile trip to work in its stride again

Because it seems the more expensive the vehicle, the more idiotic the driver....for some reason. You very rarely get people in cheap cars driving stupidly and/or arrogantly / aggressively other than chavs in barried up Saxos & Corsas!

I would guess the Bentley driver was on the phone.Yes there are 100s of poor drivers on the roads, especially on motorways. Goes without saying really.

Ah, but yes, but no, but you see.... I passed quietly so as not to wake the driver in the middle lane

I would guess the Bentley driver was on the phone.

That's what I thought, until he did it second time.Ah well, another 3 miles home again without problem, every journey in an old snotter where you don't break down is a victory 8)
