Selling cars advice

What you should do with bleaters (in general, not just with cars) is to repeat everything they say in the squeakiest, whiniest voice you can muster. Then end the phone call - particularly satisfying if you have a clamshell phone as you can imagine them being crushed within the palm of your hand! Brilliant.

Also with regards to the Practical Classics Forum Email-o-thon, he made things worse by giving a sensible reply. Why do people do this?

If only he responded along these lines:-

"Dear Madame,

Thank you for the wonderful story regarding your precious children. It was enchanting!

With regards to your proposed case, I refer you to Reel 2 Real (1993) and am now delighted to conclude this matter.

I do hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Lots of love,

That would have finished it off easily.

Christ, I've got all this to look forward to when I want rid of my £150 bluebird  And the peeps wonder why I want to just frag or banger-frag the thing...

1. Hindsite is a wonderful thing. Probably he was trying to be honest and helpful.

2. Peter C who wrote that stuff on practical classics I think is also Peter C who posted the link here, so he might tell you why he did it himself

Suggestion time:If he's going to get nailed it may be best to lay off the text messages because he might turn his phone off and launch the sim card. This might make it easier for him to evade Trading Standards/whoever.

He will keep on selling dodgy shit for years to come i recoken, Even though my mates reported him, Trading standards won't do much about it.

No he won`t, he`s not a trader, he`s a dipstick who heard that you could make easy cash by buying and selling cars, realised he was out of his depth, and probably burst into tears before phoning the seller back and making a fool of himself. The music stopped and he was the one without a chair, he probably won`t be doing this again.Hirst makes a good point to be fair, the guy from PC need not have wasted his time entertaining those dreadful people, however I can see why you might try and keep it civilised if at all possible, what`s worse is the well-meaning but mis-informed people on both that thread and this one who get the law as it applies to the motor trade and the law as it applies to a private seller mixed up, and seem to think that these jokers have a ghost of a chance of getting their way. With a private sale, once a car is gone it`s gone, unless the car is a stolen vehicle, no governing bodies, courts, police, standards agencies or anyone else will be the slightest bit interested in getting involved in these squabbles.

This is the very reason I usually end up weighing in most cheap shitters I have, unless I know the person im selling to or the car "deserves" to be saved its easier to just remove a few saleable spares and cube the rest.

If the trading standards are showing no interest in him I'm sure the Inland Revenue might.

Peter C here. I thought that being reasonable and polite would sort the problem out. And it did, I have not heard from the mad woman since that exchange of emails, which took place back in Nov 09.
