1970 Dodge Spotted on my Street

I have a 'spots' thread, but it's derelict at this point, and I've only got the single car here.

It's a 1970 Dodge ... something. Dart, I assume. They were switching names of models on a weekly basis back then so who knows. I'll ask me dad later, as he had several of these rustbuckets back in the day.

No doubt gutless unreliable slant six is under the hood. Key hole on trunk is painted over. Class all the way!

I think that Dart is a 1970 model. Lovely... I'd love something like that or a Falcon.

I had a Valiant with a slant 6 in it, and it went pretty well. They can be made to produce significant horsepower, as can most Yank straight sixes. When I bought my '55 Chevy 210, it had the 4,2 "Blue Flame" lump in it. All the sages said throw it away and put a V8 in . After some interweb research , I ordered from the States a "bulldog" cam, a Fenton exhaust manifold, and a twin carb set up on an inlet manifold [carbs were, of all things, XR3 pre injection jobs.] This lot cost the princeley sum of $734 [at $2 to the £] Power went from 136 b.h.p to 190 b.h.p, with mountains of torque, fuel consumption actually improved from 17 mpg to about 22 mpg. Coupled with a 3 spped [plus overdrive] manual box, it went like a train........

I would dispute the 'unreliable' tag of the slant six - most of these cars went on for a long time, and survived despite the minimal maintenance most American cars of this era got. No ball of speed either, but then remember these cars competed with the Beetle, which was fairly horrific in all respects by 1970, and stuff like Corrollas which were great whilst the bodywork lasted but would usually be in the junkyard by their 7th birthday.

With a bit of fettling, you can get 250 bhp out of a slant six, and they're pretty much bomb proof
