A lot of stuff that's great when supplied to manufacturers can be of lower quality when supplied to the aftermarket. Or even when supplied in oe to certain other manufacturers who may be continually trying to strip out costs.

All this “my battery lasted x years etc”, is pretty pointless without knowing the history of its use. One might be used to start once or twice a day, others 50 times ( stop/start), batteries in the north  of Scotland will have been worked harder than those in Cornwall due to lower average temperatures etc etc. The type of immobiliser fitted probably wears the battery the most, some seem to use half the charge over night and go flat in a few days.

In fairness, Halford's trade card gets a decent discount on tools etc too. I don't know what battery prices (with card) are like, but they used to knock a lot off.

About 25% IIRC. It’s convenience I guess as they’re usually local and open till 8, also check out trade card prices on car parts, usually cheaper than ECP by a margin if you can wait a day or two. I picked up a gasket a while back for something daft like £6, when it was at least £15 everywhere else.

I generally find batteries in vehicles that are constantly or at least regularly used are far more durable than ones that aren't. My motorcycle batteries tend to pack in quite quickly, but not on my old Honda which was my regular daily transport for several years.

The irony is ECP do (or did) supply them with parts. CES as was (now GSF) used to, my mate at Halfords used to tell me to go direct there and save a few quid but it sounds like Halfords are now cheaper.

Worth a go imo. ECP still supply them that’s correct but for some reason it’s offered out at a cheaper rate.
