hotford00 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 What year did Roadrunners come out?. When the powers that be amalgamated Roadline and National carriers I think it was 1985 I wasnt aware that the Roadrunner was on general release, so in that case a most unusual photo.Anyone????

simmo Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 when roadrunners first came out the lower passenger glass panel was clear but they weren't great for dress wearing ladies vanity so they were soon changed to a spotted glass.
bigstraight6 Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Roadrunner did first appear in '85, early ones were powered by the 'Leyland 6/98' engine, which was really the old BMC 5.1 diesel engine from yonks ago, not much improved either Was an excellent tool when the Cummins engine became 'standard issue' from about 1989....

Station Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 What was the purpose of the clear glass - the driver can't see too well surely? I think it's a really nice touch, I love the design.I don't think I can remember those Roadline trucks???
simmo Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 The lower glass does help with parking and manovering etc, you still see out really well though the dotted glass.
Mash Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Did they actually make an opposite hand cab front for LHD markets? I can just imagine it being like the AMC Pacer where they couldn't be arsed to swap the long/short doors over

I used to work for Lynx (which is now part of UPS).
MrRegieRitmo Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 The design of those Roadrunners has held up very well over the past 20+ years, the latest models aren't all that far removed! I always preferred the rival Ford Cargo & the equivalent mid range Mercedes lorry at the time, although they haven't dated so well.
