Suddenly Saab

Wandering about the sales listings, saw this Saab, loked at the pics and price...instant WANT.

It is a 9000 turbo auto 1995, advertised as very well looked after and rust free.

Anything I should look for ? It has done 140,000km.

Good motors those, had two hatches, which were great. Timing chains can rattle, Head gaskets can go, and manual gearboxes seem weak, not sure on auto's as mine were both manual. It's pretty much guaranteed to have a saggy headlining. They do make very composed cruisers, are well equipped and solid, not the best handlers as they are a wafty luxobarge.

Wiring can be flaky on the plug coils. These have no actual specific diagnostic procedures - just look for obviously duff wiring/cracked insulation etc. Can't think of anything else.

Had one myself a few months ago,it was auto and saloon flavour too.Mine was only LPT but it drove great (check for boost guage right-hand side of the dash). The auto 'box was silky smooth and the only problem I had were split C.V. gaiters for the MOT.The coil packs do play up but I've only noticed this on manuals.

I dont know how to tell the differences without being told, but I think the 9000 Turbos start at around 150BHP, so not particularly quick especially if Auto. Just something to consider incase you're expecting a 225 brake beast.

Dilemma solved. I have just returned from the city , and I spent much more than the cost of this on a new aircon system for the house. The Laurel gets to stay for a while!
