I dunno, I reckon it's a pretty good effort myself... ours has been in service as a daily for a year now doing about 250 miles a week and it'd been pretty reliable. It not broken down once although it had two morning where it was reluctant to start but that proved to be down to poor HT leads arcing in the damp weather. It's needed a wheel bearing, a bottom ball joint and a track rod end, some pads and a headlight bulb in that time but it flew though it's MOT last week with no advisories. It's done about 50k so the worn bits is quite premature but then I kind of expect that with french cars. It's been very good on fuel, the performance isn't bad for a 1.4 and best of all it's ultra comfy and pleasant to drive. I rate it pretty highly TBH.

It's amazing how many of these (and the 9's) are still around. Looks nice, hope it's a good 'un. :)

I think that looks lovely. Am quite jealous :D I'd like another R11, a proper, working sorted one though plz.

I havnt commited to takin it yet, but I probably will. I already have a few ideas in my head. I have a brand new set of 18 Turbo alloys which may look quite nice as well as the Fuego Leather steering wheel. I do have a list of this that do need doing, all cosmetic. So if anybody has 11 parts, read on as I may need them.Chrome/plastic Gutter Strips have corroded.Idealy I need a complete set of seats, rear has suffered sun damage and drivers has a few holes,,,,though a good set of seat covers will do for now.Right rear lamp unit appears dark so assume water inside.1 Headlamp reflector is rusty,,so would probaly like to replace all 4.How do you get the bumpers back to grey--they have gone white??????Probably wont collect for a week or so, so would like to have a few bits gathered in the mean time so any help would be great.ThanksJohn

I've got a new set of Boutique seat covers for an R11. They're grey with red piping IIRC. I'll dig 'em out tomorrow. I did get them for ours but never bothered using them.I bought some new gutter trims for ours from Renault but they were pretty steep at £50 for the pair. Looks loads better with new ones though.

Cheap method - black shoe polish with a foam applicator. Morrison's works pretty well but I'm unsure of the Irish supermarket equivalent! I've also heard that peanut butter and sunflower oil work well...More costly but better method - hot air gun.

Sounds just like my R9 also 1.4, although MOT coming up next month so we'll see what happens there!

What happened to your one?

Nice one RenoMad.

How?

Heating the plastic brings the oils back to the surface and they turn black again. Doesn't work if you do it loads of times as there's only so much oil in the plastic!Boot polish always looks a bit much I think, but I need to consider options for the 21 which is also greying nicely.

I did a small test using a hot air gun and the bumpers don't seem to respond well to it. It just went shiny and very streaky. They look great after a good coat of bumper gel but it doesn't last very long before it needs doing again. Mind you, it only takes a few minutes to do them with gel so it's not that bad. Best long term solution would be to match the original dark grey up and paint them with a proper bumper paint with a matting agent. You'd probably bury some of the texture though.

Hey Ratdat,,thanks for the kind offer. Let me know when you locate them and we'll talk..Do you know if light or dark grey as my interior is light. Also my rear seat is all one piece,,not split?????Let me know.I d'ont suppose you have the receipt for the gutter trims, as the part numbers would be on it and I'd be able to look them up.Also thanks guys for the kind words about the little 11. Being straight up I sold the 18 to get some cash,,and I was able to buy this with the leftovers so being so skint I will treasure this little car all the more or at least until I get tired of it which I really cannot afford to do :?

I think those covers are light grey. Sorry forgot to dig them out today. The numbers on the reciept for those trims are R77 04 003 650 for the LH and R77 04 003 651 for the RH. They were £21.42 plus vat each.

If they suit,,let me know how much you want for them and we'll try to arrange something..I just had a look at the pic of your GTL on your website and if I can get mine to look anyway like yours I'll be very happy. Is it long since you got the trims????John

I checked to see about the gutter trims, but unfortunately Renault dont supply any more. :?

I only got them last June. They had to come from France.

I work in a Renault Dealership and I logged onto the parts system which said that they are no longer supplied>>> :?

I never knew that. Might give that a shot. Will test it out like Ratdat first like but its worth a try. Ta for the idea Messers Wobbler & Welfare.

This flies in the face of everyone else but I'm used to that....

I actually like grey bumpers. In fact on series 1 R14s they're meant to be that way! 8) They provide a nicer contrast to the rest of the car. Except on grey or silver cars where they appear to be body coloured!

ESPECIALLY on a Plane Jane Silver Blue R11 that now looks even planer!! :D

Blacking up grey trim has been a bit of a thorn in my side for a while! For quite a long time I settled on Meguiars tyre shine - quite pricey but it was really easy to apply and lasted a fair few weeks, so it went a long way. Then I tried using linseed oil. Really easy to apply and lasts absolutely ages. Best thing is that unlike some of the "bumper black" type products it seems to bring the bumper back to their original state rather than change them to something else (worst one for that is that Back to Black sludge).Best transformation was an old 214 - it had been neglected for a few years and the bumpers and rear panel had gone into a patchy sunfaded light grey. 10 minutes later it was back to a consistent mid grey with a nice sheen to it, but not shiny or greasy. Only thing is that it is best left a few hours before you go driving, otherwise road grime sticks to it. And whatever you've used as a rag becomes highly flammable, so you might want to do something about that.

Got all excited when you mentioned this before. As it worked well on your Cavalier I thought I’d give it a go on my similar era Nova (I'd already got the gun so no expense).Think mine were past recovery as nothing much seemed to happen. Circulated an RS heat gun progressively closer to the rear bumper, almost to the point of melting it, but the colour remained the same.Autoglym Bumper Care seems to lift a lot of dirt off and leaves things looking great, but only for a short time.

That's exactly the result I got! Saved me some effort there. I just love how it takes it back to the proper grey, it's amazing stuff.

^ Looks very effective. Will give it a go when the car’s back. Thank you gentlemen.

Stays like that too! I did it on a Rover and it looked just as nice when the bloke limped it away to the scrapyard many months later.

I just asked my wife if she would add Linseed Oil to the shopping list. When I told her what I wanted it for,,she asked "isnt it flammable"? I said probably. She asked Why I would want to try and burn it before I get a run of bad luck??????
