Fella turned up with his friend who's driving the newer Land Cruiser.

Look around it, best price nonsense but stood firm. The one of them was on the phone for a bit and he said no basically.

Why?

He only checked the fucking road tax now, after driving up from London. And has walked away from it.

Whilst it will irritate you that you didn't shift it, well done on standing your ground and making sure they wasted their journey.

He'd have spent more in the diesel coming down and going back than he would on one months tax on the car.

Fuckwits! We've had the higher post 2006 tax bands for nearly 20 years now. It's not a surprise.

A similar age Discovery is now worth about 2 years' tax, hence nobody wants them.

I think he was basing it on the tax his mate pays, but his mate is driving a fucking 2 year old Land Cruiser. Not a 20 year old one.

Still, it's been up on eBay and AutoTrader since Saturday and there has been interest, although this sort of interest. And it's still far more than last time. So it's looking positive.

Especially positive for the wife who knows the time a potential Berlingo pops up on to the drive is now further away.

Perhaps this is what you need to replace the Land Cruiser.

All of the enjoyment of chasing obscure Japanese parts as it's at least partly Mitsubishi under there, with all of the prestige* of a practical Citroen.

But the tax on a 2 year old Land cruiser would be quite a lot, because it would have cost over £40k new.Though possibly the last ones were sold as commercial vehicles to get round some regulations or something.

You’re lucky my wife isn’t here and doesn’t know this car exists.

His mate reckoned it was about £340 a year for him. May not have been a 2 year old one. It was definitely much newer than mine though. So probably a 150.

I was selling a Ford Ranger once and the prospective buyer asked for a reduced price because the insurance was more expensive than he thought it was going to be, then turned up looked at it and said his wife said no, she wanted a Range Rover Sport !
