Semi-Autoshite in old family photo’s (1990’s)

There might be a better place for this so i’m happy to relocate it.

 

I was visiting my parents and had a rummage in an old box of photo’s. Came across various car related imagery and took a few snaps to share.

 

I have to admit. I was v.nearly tempted to pinch the photo between my fingers and ‘zoom in’ on a couple I had in front of me 🤦‍♂️
 

Onwards though, to a small selection of stuff. A few holiday snaps or trips out but starting with some family owned stuff. I believe everything here is long gone unfortunately. 

 

Dad had x3 XJ6’s in succession. Black 2.8(??) with cloth interior. Green 3.2 with cream leather and finally a blue Sovereign 4.0 l6 with cream interior. There was an elbow ‘groove’ in the top of the drivers door card I always remember seeing that my dad created. That was my point of reference should I ever have to spot it in a line up or scrapyard sans registration plates.

I liked them and still to this day haven’t had one. I fancy driving an X300/308 shape for a weekend. But not sure I’d have a use for one any longer than that.

 

Mum had a few I remember too. A 2CV was another car I wanted to own breifly 10-15yrs ago until I saw the price of them (when I was expecting them to be sub £1k. What a fool I was!

 

 

It was sold to a ‘hippy’ couple and I don’t think it saw another MOT after that.

It was replaced by this escort.

Which I always had a slight fear of, after I was shown how the pedals worked and accidentally ran my mum over (just slightly) in the process.

It was sold after a couple yrs, then a month later the police knocked on the door saying it had been stolen and used in a robbery. The DVLA information was slow to catch up back then.

Bonus photo of a family friends VW Passat. It was also stolen and he replaced it with an R-reg Polo saloon. I always thought the rear end on those polo’s was ridiculously high!

 

 

Onwards to other spots:

My uncles wedding. A music producer friend of his (still an active producer I believe) arrived in a Ferrari. My memory told me it was an F355 but finding the photo’s again it was actually a 512 Testarossa!

12yo me spent 2 days staring at it in the car park. He took me out in it. The noise and acceleration was brutal. Like nothing I had experienced before. An additional fuel for the passion of cars for me. A reg check suggested this didn’t survive another 12months past this photo. Who knows what happened. Deep down I’d love to think it’s still about as it had quite an impact on me.

 

Bonus rubbish photo of a car (engine) i’m now looking for.

As per my other post of a family owned mercedes 190D, an OM605 TD from this exact model C-class would be a great upgrade. Little did I know we had the 2.5TD with manual box in the driveway all along! If only my parents decided to keep it 20yrs for the off chance I may get another merc and do the swap. Getting thin on the ground now.  Back then it was just a poverty spec C-class ‘Classic’ with no options and dog slow. Why didn’t 15yo me raise this suggestion of keeping it at the dinner table!! Shame on me!

(I think it went on to do moon miles! Which I’m pleased to hear).

and finally the BTCC at Croft around 2000 I think. Wikipedia says it’s likely 25th June 2000. Last yr of the ‘big saloon’ Super Touring stuff that I was really in to like S40 Volvo’s & Mondeo’s)
