trigger Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 I,m waiting to hear from big sister, she is living 1/2 way between Sudbury & Colchester. there is about 1/2 a mile of farm track to get to the road so she may be stopping in. Nayland? The roads won't be great around there, They are bad enough when it's just icey!

zephyr ally Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Now Trigger's told me how to upload photos, here's mine and this is why it's trapped at the bottom of the drive Super steep! and now covered in ice thanks to thawing and freezing action

Tonka Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 My son and his mate's using our recycling box in the manner intended ie in lieu of a sledge. Typical teenagers, his mate has the local take-away menu in his hand and reckoned he could place their order whilst moving, predictably this has since failed as a plan and my wife has had to take over that job!
Electric Leyland Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 ^^ Haha that's ace. Here's mine from Friday in St. Evenage. Wonder how they'll look tomorrow...
pompei Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 When you say "here's mine", do you mean your spots or your cars? Love the Audi and the S Type!
Electric Leyland Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 When you say "here's mine", do you mean your spots or your cars? Love the Audi and the S Type! My current fleet, and that snow is hiding a multitude of bodywork sins on the Audi!
pompei Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Ah, I think I remember the tale of the towing of the Audi? What's the story of the S type?
Electric Leyland Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Haha yes in the early days the Audi would always cut out, until I finally fitted the proper sized belts so the alternator would charge up. Been fine ever since, but the exhaust needs some attention next. The Jag as you can see isn't exactly Autoshite, but it's an inheritance gift from my dad who just doesn't drive it anymore, so he very kindly gave it to me this year. He's had it since '98 and it's had loads spent on it in the time, but truthfuly I can't afford to run it much longer, got to find something more practical for ferrying the baby around in. She did have a leaky seal in the (quite new) auto box from being dry stored the last 5 years or so, but regular runs into town and back seem to have fixed it. These old cars are just meant to be driven regularly!
seth Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Jag is lush EL! Unfortunatly my dad sold his Mk2 to buy a house in 1971 :(Snow is on its way out in these parts though our road is still a bit covered in crunchy stuff. BBBbrrrrrr!
Andrew353w Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Did my "damsel in distress" assistance bit yesterday. Young lady with a Merc 320 slk automatic couldn't get it up the gentle hill outside our place and every time she revved it all that mighty powerhouse did was spin the back wheels. Tow rope onto the towing eye on the front of the Merc & the other end onto the towing eye on the front of my Skoda Fun & we G-E-N-T-L-Y teased it up the hill. As a Christmas gesture I topped up her screen washer too.My reward? A bottle of vodka and a bottle of red wine! All in all a result all round-MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Electric Leyland Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Thanks, and ditto but in 1970!Personally the car isn't really me, and I will have to let her go, but it's great fun driving it in the meantime! Just trying to prolong it as long as possible, feel bad to get rid so soon after being handed it.
Guest Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Loads of sheet ice everywhere now, this stinks. I usually park the car up a steep hill near work, no chance of that today - the Charmant made a valiant stab at it and got about a third of the way up, but it was reached a dead point of "newsagent glittery floor" ice where it was going nowhere, so I turned around and went back. Not like I haven't got enough rubbish in the boot either. Quite impressed it got that far though, I reckon if it had proper winter tyres on I would have had a fair old chance. So I've parked it in front of some fancy house instead, no doubt I'll get some grief on my return when they catch me de-icing it. "What are you doing parking that old shed in front of my house oh no he's got a gun please don't shoot me aaargh" etc.I hate winter.
VWPowered Posted December 21, 2009 Author Posted December 21, 2009 all our snow has now disappears with last nights rains, just had to have plmber round as the plumbing blew it top....
Lukas Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Salty, the white-nosed Galloper, will be a very crusty shite, and if you ever saw him, you would even say he´s white... ~ 15cm of snow now, we´ll get more in the next days. But that´s nothing special, we usually have more than half a meter at this time of the year.
wuvvum Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Had to go to Sheffield yesterday to pick up some shite. Turn up at Norwich station in time for the 9.15 to Peatboghorror only to be informed that a train has derailed near Thetford and there will be a replacement bus service instead. Well let me tell you, a Kassböhrer Setra coach is GR9 in the snow - I couldn't believe the acceleration we were getting on what was basically sheet ice in places, and with barely any wheelspin at all. Setras are bloody quick as coaches go, and the driver was thrashing the crap out of it to try and stick to the train timetable. It didn't work, as we inevitably got stuck behind the 25mph mongs on single carriageway bits, but I was impressed with both the coach and the driver. It even managed a close-to-emergency stop when some twat in a 323i performed a 50mph waltz in front of us.Then it started snowing hard when the train got to Chesterfield - seeing Turbostar DMUs wheelspinning away from the platform was rather odd.Shite got me home OK though, although I did need to engage 4-wheel-drive once I got off the main roads. More about said shite when I get back from my Christmas hols - I'm off at the crack of sparrow tomorrow morning so won't be able to get any pics in daylight before I go.Main roads almost completely clear by this morning - but that didn't stop me getting stuck at 25mph most of the way to work - although I did overtake a line of four crawlers at one stage, earning me much hooting and flashing of lights, to which I responded with a one-fingered salute out of the window.
Guest Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Sounds like you were on quite a trip! I drove to Dewsbury around 1pm and turned back, the snow on the roads was getting daft by then. Good job you were getting a 4WD of some description, I reckon I'd have been marooned if I didn't head back to Wakefield when I did, so I can't imagine being in Sheffield was much better.Just been for a walk to see if the Charmant has been towed away by angry residents (it hasn't - probably just think it's some old giffer on a Christmas visit). The roads are much nicer now and the sun is out. Hopefully the snow will sod off now, I've had enough of it. Plus the bird at the local jet wash must think I fancy her, I'm down there every other day at the moment.
michiel Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Most cycle paths around here have a snowfree track a foot wide, not great when there are cyclists going both ways, or when everyone else rides at walking pace... better go on foot then! So I slipped and slid my way to work this morning, which was actually fun. Helped a CLS AMG on it's way in my lunch break, stuck in a parking bay filled with snow and slush, pushing it with another bloke. Useless piece of scheisse in this (or any other) weather!I have to keep an eye on when the thaw sets in, the Flo is covered in snow outside and ice inside... pics later today.
Lukas Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Hopefully the snow will sod off now, I've had enough of it.You had snow for only a week! We´ll have it until April now.
FredTransit Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Just started snowing again here. Dunno if it will settle, it was sleeting earlier so everywhere was wet.
brammy777 Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 We have about 3 inches now, its crazy. Been snowing since half twelve.
brammy777 Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 This is it an hour ago, and its got worse since:
