Wow, Ive bought PC two months in a row now!

Good shite-related article in the latest issue comparing Acclaim, Alfasud, Cortina, MR2 and Merc W123.

Also a resto of Viva HB Crayford and a Ford styling story. Not bad all round.

Car 1 on page 41 is a what? Someone thinks Moskvitch, someone else thinks '67 Datsun Bluebird?

FOr some reason Isuzu came into my mind, not that I know much about japanese cars. That wing shape reminded me of the very cool Triumph 2000 esque modified one (If that is indeed an Isuzu. :roll:Nigel Bickle ought to know. Whatever it is he's probably had one. Or three.

Ah thought as much. Can't think what the modified Triumphesque one might be but sounds like something I'd like to become aware of.

AH! Found the one I was looking for.

That's a Mazda isn't it Seth? Also looks rather tasty (well, apart from being a touch low... :P )

Looks almost Italian. I'd love one. Wonder if any of these are left in the UK and in original condition.

Can't say that I have bought PC for over three years now although I do flick through it at motorway services and supermarkets now and again.Does anyone know the real reason why all the staff changed overnight about five years ago?

A Guigario styled Mazda, epic, that's like the total opposite of an Alfa Romeo Arna.

Rocking horse shit comes to mind.

The Mazda 1500 and 1800 are my favourite ever Japanese car and I would love one. One turned up on eBay earlier in the year but it looked decidedly ropey, surprisingly quite a few still about on the continent. I've yet to find evidence of another surviving example in the UK.

IIRC the styling is credited to Bertone? Did Giugiaro work for them?

Soooo pretty 8)

It comes from a time when the Japanese manufacturers were employing Italian stylists quite a bit, hence the 410 Datsun Bluebird and Isuzu Bellett, both next on my list of 60s J-tin and only a container trip away as proved by Mr. Bickle!! :P:lol:

I got PC today as well, a good issue this month, its tempted me somewhat to get an acclaim, always had a soft spot for them.I need to save up though!Did anyone see that featured Marina in the classifieds? Where on earth did that come from? 4000 miles in 30 years? Thats something like 130 miles a year

The Japanese car related articles over the last 6 months have been really quite good. There is clearly some research going on, and the right people have been contacted. I know their job is not necessarily to please every classic car owner out there, but if they can get most of the facts right and at least speak to the right people then the guys at PC are doing a good job. I actually know of a Mazda 1800 up in Newcastle, but I'm not entirely sure whether the car is shown at shows at all - I was tentatively close to finding the owner of the car. Bertone did not actually design the car himself, it was done under the designers studio, Giugiaro actually penned the styling for Alfa who rejected it.

I'm old enough to remember these new. They were a very good-looking car and very reliable , also well-spec'd. But they were JAPANESE, so did not sell well.

I love how this topic has gone from 'has't PC been good recently?' to MASSIVE J-LUST in a few short posts!

anyway, Seth, when you said 'triumph 2000' i immediately thought of this;

mainly because of the flares over the rear arches (not massively visible in this pic), as Mash says, an equally sexy little thing.

One day I will be driving something as cool as these, mark my words....
