Can I have Mayo with that...............

Ok, I know what causes Mayo in an engine, but.............1.8CVH Sierra with Mayo in the dipstick tube  now it uses no water, does 60 miles a day and has had an oil change about 2 months ago...........why is it doing this?? no signs of a blown Head gasket....my one thought is that I replaced the thermostat on it and it now never seems to get up to full tempeture and this is whats causing it......now there is a vast wealth of experience of running shite on here, so has anyone had this before? is there a cure other than changing the engine to a V6 ( only spare Sierra engine I have lying around at the moment )

CVH engines need nice clean breather pipes. There is ususally a black plastic breather filter connected to the air box somewhere and these need cleaning or changing pretty regularly. They normally collect all the gunk but if it's full maybe it is collecting in the dipstick tube? The breather pipes also need a regular clean out or replacing.

I had a breather pipe that used to always get clogged with that white stuff. Oil only needs a tiny amount of water mixed to emulsify, I think it'll just need a good cleaning out.

now thats interesting.....I've had no experience with CVH engines, any other old Ford engine but not these, I'll go and try that when it stops raing :)

Cheap oil can also cause the mayo effect, My dad had the same problem on a Mk 4 Escort he had years ago, The car was nearly new at the time but had the cream around the oil filler cap, Turned out it was just cheap oil emulsifying, Changed it for some better stuff and it was fine after that.

Had this on the mk3 Fiesta I had last year.. persistent mayo but no gasket issues. As it was a £150 shitter I just ignored it and it ran for nearly a year like that with no issues. It was still running fine when I weighed it in too.

Yup - had this issue with 3 MK 3 1.1 Fiestas - oddly not the Mk1 or Mk2 which had the same but non EFi engine.Pretty much ignored it and just cleaned it out periodically. All three were bags of tish anyway.

They wouldn't be CVH engines though would they - 1.1's are OHV.

But did u know there is a super rare 1.1 cvh, VERY early mk3 Escort 1.1's were CVH 1.1's. Super rare though and ultimate shite!!Ive had many CVH's, and i like them, as said your problem is with the breathers, and the oil pressure valve under the airbox. (this is simply a plastic cone with foam in it, and a breather pipe going in at each end)Remove the breathers and clean em with some solvents and refit, as for the oil pressure valve, i cant remember if you can dismantle them and clean them out, or if its sealed. Eitherway there not expensive from ford.
