Just an idle thought - do wagon drivers have to wear their reflective tabards in their cabs? Seems like loads do :?

The ABP Gatehouses on Immingham Dock have PPE signs up stating they must do :)

When I worked for Exel / DHL it was policy that anyone at all in the vicinity of trucks / trailers or the yard they were in had to wear one. TBH its probably just that its probably easier to leave it on.Most of the people in my office used to leave them on - otherwise you tended to forget and the moment you stepped outside without one the office H&S nazi went loopy.

I must admit I don't wear mine in my truck and try and get away with it elsewhere!

At the docks i work on every lorry driver must wear a hi-vis, Some do wear hard hats as well but i don't think that one of those would help if a 30 ton container landed on your head.I still see lorry drivers smoking in there cabs as well which i though was illegal now as well...

I think that (smoking) only applies to owner operators to be honest as with company trucks other drivers have to use tham at times plus shunters etc.

Smoking in a lorry is OK in England if you are the only person who uses it.

aha so most of the drivers at the depot i worked in are breaking the law because they all change trucks and routes depending on the loads they get allocated lol no wonder they went tits up lol

Strictly speaking all vehicles are used by more than one person because MOT testers and mechanics have to drive them, however briefly, but that's the law in England. In Scotland it applies to all commercial vehicles, regardless of the number of users, but cars are exempt unless they are taxis. In Scotland you can be collecting children for a nursery and smoke as much as you want.

Let me introduce to the "Brotherhood of the Hi-Vis". When driving the Jag, suited and booted, every bugger cuts me up. When driving the Tucson, wearing my various hi-vis and smoking a fag, I find I get let out of junctions by bin lorries, truckers and even the police.

the "Brotherhood of the Hi-Vis"

I am already a fully paid-up member... Stepping out in GO/RT 3279 / BSEN 470/1 coat, trousers and BFO boots instantly earn RESTECP.Plus hi-jacked Network Rail or LUL hi-viz = free parking. A win situation....

I've gained a hi-vis thanks to my new workplace-to-be being surrounded by forklifts and morons. I also bought myself some steel toecapped boots since I've seen the mess a pallet truck makes of toes....Sadly my hi-vis has the Currys logo on it so wearing it anywhere but onsite would lead to me being stabbed. A lot of them also have bizarre taglines on the back, such as "Ask me about Step Change" - you can imagine the joke wears thin.

I get some nice orange Hi-Vis gear to wear at my work, The company provide us with steel capped boots, A nice big waterproof jacket, reversable Wastjackets, Trousers, Hard hat and even overalls and rigger boots if you want them, Only downside is the big Port of Felixstowe logo on the back of them all.One of the good things is you can get new clothing any time you want from the stores, Got a nice collection of jackets and boots now like the 100's of other blokes i work with!.
