I don't see anything wrong with Peroduas. They are what a small cheap car should be- small and cheap. Most cars marketed as small and cheap are neither. Clarkson smashed up a brand new Kelisa for being unimaginative, which shows how much he's lost touch. You can have fun in a Kelisa- simply drive it to places you like and carry passengers you like. It's not bloody rocket science.

Not only that, most people who've driven Nippas/Kelisas seem to rate them highly in terms of being fun to drive - they're lightweight with a good chassis, skinny tyres and a revvy engine and can wheelspin like mad if pushed.Plus they're based off different generations of the Daihatsu Mira, which are utterly obscure here, but definitely not rubbish.

(and 56 miles for 6.9 litres is 36.89 mpg)

That's shit really isn't it!My Persona averages 40MPG and peaks at 46.xMPG on a run
Not really when all of those 56 miles were as 5 mile start from cold journeys.the Mazda was averaging 12.5mpg on the same route!

I don't have a problem with the Perodua Kelisa so much, I quite like the way it looks. The Nippa, however is offensive to look at........and as for the Kenari...:shock::shock:

Panda, when someone hit the back of my 323 last year I told them that the garage said it would be a write-off if I went through the insurer but that they would do it as a cash job for £200. He was more than happy to pay that as most excess charges are at least £150 plus the loss of ncd etc.

You must have an aggressive driving style - have you not thought about adopting some hypermiling techniques? My Proton was doing daily 7-8mile runs each way (from cold) and still getting mid to high 30's without trying.Changed to mild hypermiling and I regularly achieve over 40mpg doing the same route :)What was the Mazda that only got 12.5?

It might be madness but if you squint the Kelisa could be a modernish looking mini...OK I'll get my coat...

No, I won't disagree with that at all. And pretty well fulfils the original Mini design brief. Also I have always thought that the 90's Micra was done in the same vein. Though the KA actually wins on lasting longest and being most like a Mini (basic, fun to drive, thrashy, noisy and MoT-failingly rusty within 4 years of 1st registration)

Yes, I'm afraid I have a heavy foot. The Mazda is/was my 929 with a 3spd auto.

The other thing is, if the bloke is a neighbour or a regular visitor and Panda takes the cash and doesn't fix the car, Panda is gonna look like a right tw@.

Not sure I get why that should matter. I happily took the value of an Orion 1.6i Ghia from the mother off some divvy kid without a driving license who was reversing their car off the drive, and smacked in to me (total damage - one front wing and an indicator lense). The car was going to be fragged in a few weeks, but point is the whole act of taking a car to be fixed is an utter pain in the ringer especially if its a daily, and even if you don't get it fixed the cash amount will sooth the loss of revenue when you come to sell. Ergo, it should also be considered as compensation. In these days of insurance companies trying to recoup lost revenues, they'd be very happy to stick more than the value of the pay out on premiums over the next few years. In a similar story, my boss is resurrecting his '93 280TE with a similar breaker with good panels after some dick smacked his boot in at a roundabout. He now has nice new doors and trim as a result.

Thing is with the cost of insurance being as it is a lot of people would prefer to settle with cash as it's not worth them going through their insurers for a few hundred quid I'd imagine.Got a £500 excess on my insurance and if any of my old shit got nicked or torched it wouldn't be worth claiming. Similarly if I put a small dent in someone's motor I'd much rather pay out myself.
