the newer than new wheelie good idea ...

the wheelie bin bench ...

I was driving home the other day with my head in the clouds when this idea pooped into my skull

why not make a bench top to put on a wheelie bin !!!

I had a bit of old wood that would do the job , just needed to measure up the stays and refasten them on

 

then I added some edging to help stop items rolling or blowing off , some paint , and the bin lid to keep the rain / prying eyes off

 

sorted !!!

 

now I can pop my tool safely on the bench instead of having it roll off the lid and  into a bush ...

Inspired! Wheely bins are an ideal height. Not good working area when filled with nappies or dog turds though.

I do use the lid of mine as a workbench as it is a good height to work at when standing. Stuff does tend to fall about though so the table top idea is definitely on my to do list, thanks.

Wheelie bins are also good for flushing the salt water out of outboard engines. Half fill with water, clamp outboard on with a bit of batten as packing and run engine for a few minutes. Bonus is that the motion of the propeller gives the bin a good wash.

I used to use mine as a makeshift workbench - until I cut the head off a bolt and dropped it on the bin - then had to explain where there was a 17mm hexagonal hole in the lid...
