in france its illegal to have a car laid up without insurance, it could be just a shell but by law has to be insured in case pikey scum nick it and crash into something...

Though presumably the french populace totally ignore this 'law' and get back to the important business in hand of going on strike, smoking and shrugging nonchelantly.

Does anyone in Autoshite land know with whom you can or cannot have a "Civil Partnership" arrangement? I'm a married man with a 26 year old daughter (who's vehicular antics have featured in the Autoshite annals...) My wife's 8 years older than me I wondered if, were she to die before me, would I be allowed to have a civil partnership with my daughter, just to avoid Inheritance Tax on any estate duties she might have to pay?Any answers out there?

I say old chap - you're not typing from a cellar in Austria by any chance?

Actually a woman in Africa did something very similar recently with her son - it didn't go down well with the rest of the villagers though...

in france you better be on the good side of your 'enfants' everything mother/father leaves goes to them, house and all and if the other half is still alive the kids can/will throw you out... madness ??

best one at the moment is the milk strike, as the supermarkets are only giving them 20c per something and it costs more than that to produce so rather than make a little less but still get something, nope they are giving it away instead

Sorry, I just realised how this thread could have been misinterpreted... No, I'm not in a cellar in Austria and I just want to avoid death duties and if having a civil partnership gets rid, then I'm up for it. That's it-honest!

I wouldn't worry about death duties unless you and your wife's entire estate come to more than £600000 - it's about £320000 individually, but the share not used by one parent can be taken up by the other - a solicitor should be able to explain it better.

Thanks for that! It's a (hopefully) long way off yet....
