German (lack of) shite

Just back from a week at my aunties in Germany, a small town I go to every year. Always got excited about the tat that used to smoke around, but this year...nothing. German scrappage scheme has killed 235,000 shitters and its really noticeable. There used to be a local scrappys -kind of -which at one time was filled with crumbly 2002 tii's, Opel rekords, taunus's,some exotic stuff, all gone.

I even went on a tat finding mission on my pushbike, did about 20 miles, but only found these..

Tarp challenge, I don't know what they are, there was a big dog chained up, and I didn't know how long the chain was!

Nice Polo coop in the background

Mazda 323 and very tidy Sierra too..

Came across this in the next town

Someone on here loves these?

Then coming home forlorn about the lack of pics, I spotted the nose of this poking out from a woodshed on a farm...My No1 Favorite car evah! The old woman was slightly bemused by my Scots gibberish.

a bloke from Bremen just flew over and bought my 79 Manta and is driving it back there as we speak, so at least thats one extra piece of tat that will soon be smoking about in Germany

LOL, thats where I went to, I could have driven it over for him!.. 99P flight from EdinburghCoal to Newcastle...? A Manta back to Germany, used to be thousands of them over there.

Hey Tiff, how do you get on with your 190D? I've been thinking of buying one. Not too bothered about the SLOW part with 9 points on my license.

Bet you were on the same flight too! I met him at edinburgh airport yesterday morning. He says theres bugger all mantas left there now as no one wants one after they were ridiculed in two films in the nineties

Have to say I didn't see any at all. Used to see them with hooge Mattig kits, with 8 or 9 inch wide 13" steel wheels , airbrushed bonnets and a mullet behind the wheel.I got home a few days ago, first thing I did when I came home was buy an old Merc 190D. And ever since I 'ave been mostly listening to Kraftwerk. German shite is uber cool...!

On my 2nd. I LOVE 'em. First was a 2.5 cyl, which was very niceat first ,but turned out to be an ex-taxi. was a bit shit really. My new one is a 2.0, and its very, very leisurely, but nice if you know what I mean. Kinda like driving an old VW camper, the world just slows down. getting about 43mpg, and it'll run on pure vegetable oil, cabbage or anything else. Bits are mega cheap, and standard ones still have a bit of class. I'd love a really early one, without all the plastic addons.. I like em basic, mine has keep-fit windows and everything! To me these are proper Mercs, further up the range they seem to lose their appeal for me.They are lovely motorway cars, sit at 60/70 in peace, and watch the world go by.

Germany is full of tat. I keep getting offered loads and loads of weird Kraut tat. Some of that stuff in the pics is rather nice..

Keep seeing an X1/9 at the side of the road in Inverkeithing BTW Tiff.. someone's clearly working on it... not sure if its one you know!

Yeah, but I guess it's being kept away like the classic car lot here do, but I mean old stuff tooling around, being used as everyday transport,I've noticed a big decline in the past few years.AND a big shift away from the norm, used to be all VW,BMW etc, now the mix is just about the same as here.

Yeah, theres a couple in Inverkeithing, know the guys, my old one is running around Dunfermline too, and a green 1300 in Falkland. There's 2 knackered ones lying in a driveway in Comrie too..Did you ever get down to see the broon Mk3?P.S. Brown is the new silver. All the German TV ads are full of brown cars, its coming back!

Turns out the brown mk3 had been brought up from a yard down south specifically for a bloke that has been breaking cortinas in Buckhaven. I know the car too, was one of only 3 surviving bench seat mk3'sWas owned by someone on buysellcortina.co.uk until about a year ago then he sold it. Tidy car too. In between times though someone has clearly wrapped it around something. :( Now its on ebay as breaking for spares with another car on its roof. Shame. Thanks for the tip off though I did my best to try and rescue it!!
