W-Reg Skoda Fabia - how grim?

That’s interesting, in my experience they are gutless and reluctant to rev, but that was the 12 valve one

They’re all 12 valve. Perhaps I’ve just been surprised at how well they can go, being low-powered cars.

I should say that personally I like unlikely cars, the underdogs. I’ve been through various 2cv/Dyanes etc and one of my current favourite cars is my £200 Panda 1.1 Active that completely belies its 54(?)hp and is a hoot to drive, rorty yet super-smooth when it’s revving high and will hit an indicated 100mph on certain private roads.

The VW 3-cylinder engine seems like it’s raring to go when you drive it like you stole it. Just a shame that the damping and steering can’t match up to that...

Fairly grim in the flesh - I quite like it.

Other than missing a Skoda badge and the headlights needing a polish, that's fucking ace.

Oh god... I feel awful. I drove it. I actually really like it... But I don't think I can take it on... And I think "politically" the best thing to do is to let them scrap it. They're in town this weekend, need to deal with it before they go overseas again...

Main issue for me is the MOT expires an a couple of weeks. Only just found out. I reckon it would go through easy enough, but my mechanic/MOT guy is on holiday this week, and when he gets back he's got a queue of customers - including 2 jobs on my van. I don't have time to deal with it myself, and I'm only in town for another week...

Real shame, it drives nice, the tyres are recent and it had a new clutch in Feb(!)

Downsides - graunchy noise from one of the pulleys running from the aux belt. Water pump? Fan only works on high. No central locking.

Aargh. Just bad timing!

I'm sleeping on it, but I've basically told her to scrap it. £140 collected from cartakeback. Not bad really.

If I hadn't won the ex JohnK Merc, there would be a PM in coming and I'd have already booked a train ticket.

Roffle, £2.50 a ticket ?

It's a nice thought but she needs it dealt with this weekend really.  And I suppose she'll want to book getting it collected ASAP.

FWIW she's had a quote for £160 now - direct from the scrap dealer that Cartakeback are affiliated with.

If someone wanted to match or better the scrap offer, turn up with cash, and drive it away then send me a PM and I'll do what I can, but at the end of the day my relationship with my in laws is more important than saving the Fabia... so I can't promise anything.

Real shame, but then there are hundreds (thousands?) of decent cars scrapped every day. You can't save them all.
