Good luck Mr Wobbler, bet you'll have a riot. Must log on to BXC as not been on in ages.

We're 4 days in, with 1000 miles covered since Folkestone (1200 in total) and only a couple of problems - a brake disc shroud came loose and a coolant pipe has a split. That was 'sort-of' repaired with self-amalgamating tape but a 2400 metre climb today almost finished it off. Just about survived! Now trying to track down a coolant pipe (bottom of rad to water pump and oil cooler) as we have a day of tinkering in the south of France on Saturday. 500 miles to do before we get there...Lots of fun, lots of stunning scenery. I've uploaded some pics to Facebook but it's being a bit of a pig and my internet access is limited.

Clamp the split with a pair of mole grips. Worked a treat on my Marina, though I'm glad I didn't go with my first choice of water supply to refill it- the pond water smelt bad enough the next day.

Right. Monaco today, if the car can hack it...

Didn't really get a good internet connection, got some pics uploaded to Faceache though and we're back home now, so I'll get this thread properly updated. Including the Matra Rancho scrapyard find...

gotta be honest, i'm sceptical that a split bottom hose can be fixed by clamping it with moles! Seems hopeful.

What we tried to do was bodge it up with self-amalgamating tape. However, this didn't work. Fortunately, we'd sleeved the repair with another section of hose and some cable ties and amazingly, this allowed us to scale several mountains! Hose replaced while we were in the south of France after the bodge lasted several hundred miles. Ace.Still sorting pics, but I will get it done!

Pics then.

Amazing yard of 2CVs near Narbonne in the South. My legs went very wobbly here.

We had to work our non-turbo diesel surprisingly hard to catch up with this old bloke in his 2CV, still in the Pyrenees.

Brits abroad - tea and cake!

We visited another scrapyard to pick up a new coolant hose (8 euros, bargain!) but it was filled with tear-inducing tat!

Beautiful and very early Dyane D6 lead us to the scrappy. Owned by a Brit abroad.

Ami 8 berline was saveable, if you can weld. And don't mind replacing the engine...

Posted Image

A bit out of sequence but it took the black Mk1 GT in the middle two days to catch us up, as the driver was at a wedding when we all set off. 1000 miles in two days and the car had been off the road for 12 years!

Gawd this was upsetting!

Posted Image

This was very solid, and immaculate inside. Why scrapped?!

Posted Image

This seemed solid too.

The group of wild BX in their Natural State - immobile

Correctorized for accuracy

Oooh, I'll let you get away with that as you're 'known' in BX circles! In all seriousness, the only one out of action was mine while the pipe was replaced. The red TZD estate (seriously quick thanks to a tweaked 1.9 Xantia TD lump) was just having some trim fitted, the white one on French plates had the oil topped up and the green estate was just being worked on because the rear wiper wouldn't work. Proves how capable these rather unloved Citroens really are.

Great pics wollydobbler. R12 estate would have to be my pick of the crop.

Sorry, taken me a while to root through my pics for moar shite!

Are you sure this isn't a secret test prototype of the new hydrogen fuel cell/electric/treacle powered hybrid that we'll all be running about in soon?

Definitely not. It isn't hideous enough and didn't seem to be filled with pointless tat. From what I've seen of Toyotas and Hondas and the G whiz, environmental cars should look like some sort of windswept turd and in the case of the previous two, be full of electrical kit to drain the batteries more quickly.

Renault Rodeo 6 (or 4, don't know which is which).Great pics DW!

Well. What a great set of photos. I'm actually quite jealous as I'd love to do a continental roadtrip in a classic, & now really miss my BX after seeing these snaps.Brilliant, hat off to you DW.

Thanks Mr Sceptre. More detail will be appearing in a certain classic car newspaper next week...You get most of the shite pics exclusively here though!

^ This is the reason I am planning to take a van to France next year. Plunder a few scrapyards for R4 bits.

That looks like a superb trip DW, very jealous!

Good time to do it. Still loads of Renner 4s about. Can't imagine that situation will stay around for ever...That Scrappy was in Limoux in the south - much more classic content than scrappies further north that we invaded.

Show me one full of transits (prob in Germany) and I'm there.
