Rover 100 Cabrio Hire Carz

Mike D recently gave me details of a place which uses at least one Espero as a hire car - makes sense, cheapo Vauxhall bits, with crisp Bertone styling. Practicality and class.

I know that car park...my wife's grandfather lived in Edge Avenue for years & years. Still got friends in Boundary Road :P

I've always fancied having a Rent-A-Wreck franchise but it seems that they don't really do it much over here.First job I ever had working in rental was with Practical Car & Van Rental. Now back in the day (about '93) Practical used to say how they were cheaper because they used older cars. And boy did they.I vividly remember an 100k Transit, 'D' plate Trafic that had seen better days, 'A' plate R18 TS (in silver with lacquer peeling off the front wings), assorted Metros and a very unlovely Mk5 Escort which wouldn't have been that old but was painted in at least four different shades of red.Best bit was the franchise owner went and got an FSO franchise and then dumped a few of the new FSO Caro onto fleet. Fuck me, they were shit even when new. Thankfully they went bust a few weeks later, throwing me out of work 8)

I had a Rent-a-Wreck type place in my 'hood a few years ago, they had late 80s Escorts and the like, lovely and cheap. We still have a Rent-a-Brik (no, not a Lada rental place, brik is Dutch for banger/wreck), used to rent vans there years ago but they are on the other side of town and I have no need for vans anyway. They still have a Kadett E wagon and a saloon and assorted mid-90s Opels, Corsa to Vectra.

There is a buget rental firm in Mildenhall which preys on the american servicemen with Rover 400s and 600s, Mk1 Mondeos and Lagunas, even the odd Volvo all sporting "£49 a week hire" sunstrips.I can't help thinking some of them are being robbed!
