I've just had a thought. Would most people on this site swerve to avoid everyone else on the dodgems or deliberately try to ram others?I'm in the swerve category. I don't like crashing. I don't think I'd like banger racing...

I'm quite unique here as I sit in the pro camp, but good banger racers don't go looking for crashes and thats my gripe with the sport - too many are hot shots who think steaming into a stationary car is what its about or having mega pile ups. It should be a race of life expired cars.
Yeah, that sounds fine to me. I guess I don't like the 'ramming' approach, whether it's banger racers or Schumacher. There's just no skill in smashing a car up and I guess that's why I find it distasteful. That and the "ooh, look how rare this is, that'll piss off the purists" approach too as it's schoolyard-bully-petty. Just grow up.

I quite agree, my late father raced bangers in the 1970s and probably dispatched his fair share of Rover 90's to auto heaven but he worked in the motor trade and at the time, cars that needed loads of welding to keep on the road were not worth anything to the owners so they normally sold them on and many of those I know who race now are the same, but he never went out to trash the car, and preferred to make them last as long as possible even if they got crumpled.A mate of a mate runs a very tidy Morris Oxford, but to get it in that condition he needed another to donate spares. Using 2 cars he made a mint road going daily driver, and raced the remains of the wreck. There are a bad few who have given the sport a really bad name, but many are also classic nuts with some very nice classics themselves.
