Give it an oil and filter change, and use a diesel-spec oil (which has more detergents than petrol oils).

I've done an oil and filter change but only used normal oil and its still there unfortunately.

It is starting to look like I need to get oil under my nails isn't it.....

If you've only just changed the oil, then it would be overkill to do it again.

I'd take the oil filler cap off and make sure oil is reaching the cam - if that's OK, then fresh oil and a good run should be enough to free off any sticky tappets.

Tappets on 944's stick for fun. Mine has had a new head at some point in my ownership, is maintained to buggery by a good local specialist and still rattles its tits off once in a while if I don't take it for a good run, or if I try to potter about the village in it. I recommend driving yours out into the countryside where no-one else will hear them... By the time you get home, they'll have all calmed down again.

Just took this for a quick spin round some....er......'private roads' near me and all the clattering has cleared up nicely.

Now the '3.0 powertrain is silent as a fish and pulls like a great'
